“Drop in Standards!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2008

We have stayed here a few times now and were so impressed before that we wrote a review on this very site. Unfortunately though our stay early February was nowhere near as good as on previous visits. The apartments felt a little unloved and not as clean as before. Obvious signs of wear and tear. We called to make a reservation direct and got a guy on the phone who didn't seem to know what was what. Previously and as mentioned on the site, we dealt with a lovely girl who made us feel like old friends. Making recommendations etc. She even recognised our name from previous stays. He was so vague then asked us to send over an email with our requirements which we did. Granted once we'd emailed over we received a reply quickly and the reservation was all in order. The offerings in the morning were poor - the pastries were stale and the coffee was horrible. It was complimentary so I think they must serve the cheapest of the cheap to cover their costs. I don't think we'll go back here. Other apartments in the city we've sinced discovered Fraser Suites, Glasgow Central and The Spires offer a more enjoyable experience.

“Nice place, no service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2008

Nice clean accommadation in a great location -the service however leaves a great deal to be desired....we'd booked a 3 bedroomed apartment which on arrival suddenly became 3 x 1 bedroomed...far from apologetic the guy on the phone grudgingly accepted he'd honour the original price. Don't try booking the parking or asking for directions because until you're stood on the steps of the building unable to get in no-one can be bothered to speak to you.

“Awful!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2008

We travelled around Scotland staying in several hotels and apartments - this was by far the worse! There was no customer service to speak of, we saw no-one during the 4 days that we were there and at no point was our apartment serviced. Towels and bedlinen were unchanged during our stay. The apartments are centrally located, are quite spacious but extremely noisy and the cleanliness could be better. Our apartment also had faulty flooring quite dangerous. We wouldn't stay here again. Glasgow is an amazing city, friendly and with great bars and restaurants. Our stay wasn't long enough and we'd really like to return, next time though we'll find somewhere else to stay. We do enjoy staying in apartments rather than hotels so would find some other apartments in Glasgow to stay in next time around.

“Good but a few gripes”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2008

I stayed here for two nights. There is no reception and I had some trouble contacting them initially. There is supposed to be a cheaper rate if you book through last.minute.com.but for some reason it wasn't available.

You get a code to let you in to the building and then access your key. There's no one actually there but if you have difficulties you can telephone and someone arrives (after about 15 minutes in my case). The apartments are in a historic building near the city centre but quieter than being inthe city would be. They are modern, well fitted out etc. The main problems were the lack of china and glassware (practically none in my flat) and the internal doors. The doors are so heavy they won't stay open, I had to prop them open with a chair.

It's a convenient location and comfortable, but for the price I would expect a fully kitted kitchen.

“Pleasure without Pain?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2008

My friends & I stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment on New Years Eve & New Years day. We were emailed instructions how to get into the apartment & get our key which was nice & efficient.

The apartment itself was very nice, lovely comfortable beds, a good sized bathroom & an en suite in the largest bedroom.

We did have a couple of small gripes. It was an apartment to sleep 6 & there was only a 2 seater sofa & a single seater & there was a dining table to seat 4. Not really a big deal for a short stay but would have been nice if everyone could have had a comfortable seat & if we weren't all squeezed in around the dinner table.

There was a dishwasher with dishwasher tablets provided which I thought was an excellent touch. There was only 1 glass & wine glass per person & 1 piece of each bit of cutlery per person which although was expected seemed a bit stingy in such lovely apartments. There was a good selection of pots & pans which we needed as we cooked both nights we were there. The only things we really missed were a chopping board & oven glove!

The downside of our stay was that people set the fire extinguisher off in the hall outside our room (I think they had gotten in somehow & weren't guests as they just sat in the exit hallway for hours) which set off the fire alarm. No-one answered the "emergency" number when we tried calling to let them know about it.

The fire alarm then had issues on new years day when it wouldn't stop going off & had to be silenced, unfortunately this shut down the gas boiler as a safety precaution which meant we had no heating or hot water, being winter & with single glazing the apartment became freezing! We had to sit with our jackets on & we couldn't wash & people in our group were forced to have cold showers as they were going straight to work on the 2nd.

We asked for compensation & were initially offered a 1 bedroom apartment, not much use for 6 people. We were then offered a 3 bedroom apartment but with the requirement we pay for the additional night as per the minimum stay requirements which I hardly thought fair given that it was meant to be compensation.

Finally we were offered £60 financial compensation which we accepted as our group felt that paying more money to go back defeated the purpose of us being compensated.

Overall, I know if the fire extinguisher had never been set off on new years eve our stay would no doubt have been much better, unfortunately this one incident set off a chain reaction which tarnished my view & would mean I would probably not go back to stay at Glasgow Centrale as I was very disappointed with the customer service.
