Eight courses in eight days, and four nights in the Dunvegan to start off the trip. We were so spoiled by the staff and the excellent food that it was hard for the rest of the trip to compare to what we had in St. Andrews.
Sheena is an amazing hostess and always cheerful. She'll greet you at breakfast with a high five and a smile and maintain the same enthusiasm until the last pint is finished in the pub downstairs.
Our suite was incredible, more than enough room for everyone and right next to everything... shopping, golf, great food and nightlife. Couldn't ask for more.
The history of the place is enough to make you stop in your shoes and stare in awe at the thousands of photo's on the walls, then drop to your knee's as you turn the corner and head straight toward the Royal and Ancient clubhouse and the 18th green of the Old Course.
You can't believe what an amazing experience you'll have until you visit St. Andrews and stay at the Dunvegan.

The Dunvagen is a small hotel about 100 yards from the first Tee of the Old Course.
I have stayed there just about every April for the past 6 (more?) years for a good reason:
The rooms, the service, the location, the staff, the owners ( Sheena and Jack Willoughby), the Bar, and the friendly local folks from town. All first rate!!!
All the rooms (and I think I have stayed in them all over the years) are neat, tiddy, and with all of your needs. If you need something in addition ( internet access, flight check-ins, a new rental car, T-times at a nearby course, anyting!), Jack or Sheena will take care of it FAST!
In addition to the standard rooms, there is also the 3 bedroom, 2 bath, Auchterlonie Suites..... a great deal for a group of golfers!
The Bar is small and friendly. Within a few hours everybody knows your name... you feel welcomed by all the caddies and locals. If you want to find a caddie, try stopping by the "Dunny" where they all show up for free coffee on the way to the Old Course at about 6 in the morning.
Taken all together, The Dunvagen is the best Golf hotel anywhere.
I think it is one of the best deals in the world of golf for location, friendliness, and price.
I already have my rooms reserved for next April.

The Dunvegan is without a doubt the only place to stay when visiting St. Andrews. Jack and Sheena are gracious hosts, the food is great, the staff friendly, and the rooms spotless. If you are a golfer, the location a "9 iron from the Old Course's 18th fairway" is unbeatable. The bar is a friendly, lively place that caters to a mix of locals and visitors making for a great atmosphere. If golf isn't your thing, the town of St. Andrews itself is a fascinating place. We highly recommend St. Andrews and the Dunvegan to anyone planning a trip to Scotland.

We spent the weekend of July 4th, 2009 at the Dunvegan in St. Andrews, Scotland. The hospitality, food, and atmosphere were beyond description. The staff is very friendly, efficient and helpful. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a warm and down home comfortable place to stay when visiting St. Andrews. The hotel is small, and that enhances the atmosphere. The bar is a friendly place to gather after playing 18 holes of golf , or just to visit and have a drink. The food is outstanding. Jack and Sheena are gracious hosts and they will make you feel welcome the minute you walk in the door. The Dunvegan is a place you will want to visit again.
