My wife and I, together with another couple, booked 3 nights over the Valentine's Day weekend to spoil ourselves. The hotel is conveniently located for Warwick, Stratford-on-Avon and the Cotswolds and is easily reached from the motorway network.
We had taken a half-price deal on the rooms so ended up at the furthest point from Reception in rooms you could not swing a cat in (probably half the size of a typical Premier Inn/Travelodge room - you get the picture!). Double bed was firm but comfortable. Maid service very enthusiastic - knocking on the door at 8.30am to get in!
Our friends made use of the small pool/sauna/steam room - but were only allowed in when the families had finished and towel supply was restored.
Our big mistake was to book for their Valentine's Dinner on Sat 13th. We booked for 8.30pm and the restaurant was very busy. We were attended by wholly incompetent and ill-prepared staff, who did not know what was on the menu, and could not remember our choice of wine, let alone deliver it. Our Starters arrived fairly promptly, but we only got 2 instead of 4 (we were all sharing), then we started our wait for the Main Course. Couples on a romantic night out were left in the same situation, and many left without paying, whilst the staff kept checking orders without delivering. After at least an hour's wait, and several altercations with the Head Waiter, our food did materialise. 3 were fine but mine was a disaster. Not wanting to wait again, I complained but proceeded to eat. Of approximately 10 tables nearby, not one got food on time and many left hungry and unhappy. We ended the evening with a negotiated settlement regarding the bill - we refused to pay! The bar staff were no better regards professionalism - under-trained and underpaid no doubt.
So, as I said earlier, if only we'd stayed across the road!
