This hotel is fantastic. It's right on Hyde park - a short 5 minute walk from anything going on in the park (Winter Wonderland for example). It's also a 5 minute walk to Oxford Street and 10 mins to Regent Street with all of the shopping you could ever want. We toured London for 3 days and never had to use the tube. The double decker tour busses are a 5 min walk from the hotel. The Concierge Lounge here is fantastic with food and drinks available all day. The room was beautifully appointed and everything worked well. Bathroom is white marble everywhere. JW Steakhouse food was excellent. Dont miss the fresh baked rolls! Can walk through the park to Harrods and that part of the city and even home from the British Museum if you want. Almost everything is walkable from this hotel! Paddington train Station is a 15 min walk and the Heathrow Express train runs directly to Paddington making the journey from Heathrow to the hotel 35 mins including the walk. Highly recommend this hotel.

Having stayed in the Park Land Marriott and the Grosvenor Square Marriott I was looking for to staying for 3 nights at the Marriotts flag ship hotel J W Marriott. I was very disappointed by my stay. I travelled with my son of 11. We asked for a twin room. On arrival after a short wait at the reception we were given the keys to our room. It turned out to be a room suitable for wheelchair requirement/access guests. The red chords hanging down by the beds were a bit off putting but i guess needed for guests with special needs. However the bathroom didn't have a bath and the shower was suitable for a wheel chair to be rolled into. Personally I rarely shower and love to soak in a big tub. The room was also very dark and over looked a grim scene out of the window. So we asked to be moved. The next room seemed ok until the morning when the maids started working. The noise was incrediblly loud. We actually felt like they were in the room with us. We had a door in our bedroom which inter connected to the maids room. Again we asked to move. This time we had to pack everything up which was a bit of nuisance as we were missing out on fun times around London. The hotel did offer to move our bags so off we went out for the day. We got back and asked for new room keys. This time when we got to our room there were no twin beds just one king size. By this time we gave up and decided to stay. Given the bed was so big it wasn't so bad sharing but still I think it was poor service to not provide a twin room. The view from the room was also slightly better. However the lighting in the room was very dark.

We made use of the executive lounge while we were there. This was also probably one of the worst exec lounges I've used. The food was ok but there was always a shortage of tables and seating. In addition the soft drinks in the coolers were nearly always warm as the fridges were too small for the stock needed. The ice bucket never had any ice. It was always melted. The staff in the lounge always looked miserable too.

The hotel also felt incredibly un British apart from the two jolly door staff we met and had a chat with. I think they were Londoners. They made up for the fact the place was staffed mainly by people whose first language was not english. In fact they were a credit to the Marriott as they were so helpful getting us a taxi and ensuring we got in and out of it OK. They made the trip that little bit more special.

However I think next time I will be staying at the Grosvenor Square Marriott.

The trip was paid for on points and we did complain about the service and treatment to the management of the hotel upon our return. We did receive a letter of apology and 16% of the points we used to pay for the trip back. Which I actually thought was poor and we should have been recompensed with a few more points.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Grosvenor House in London in December. the hotel is elegant and the rooms are spacious, lovely and comfortable. There are several bars and a wonderful coffee shop for snacks. As Marriott Gold Card members we had use of their Executive Lounge which provided a decent breakfast and snacks throughout the day. That was a great perk since everything in London is so expensive.

The hotel is located in a very upscale area and not a far walk from most places with easy access to the shopping on Oxford Street, Hyde Park, and Knightsbridge area and Harrods Department Store.

Although I usually choose Marriott hotels since I'm a sucker for the points, I have to say that The Grosvenor House was an excellent choice regardless. The location is fantastic -- easy walking distance from all the main shopping and just steps away from the Underground. But besides the location, the hotel has a great blend of old-world charm with the modern touches you want away from home. The bathroom was large, which for me is unexpected in a London hotel, and there was ample space to move about the bedroom. As a Marriott rewards member, I was able to take advantage of the business lounge which offered free breakfast in the morning and snacks and cocktails at night. The breakfast was a nice bonus as food can be expensive in London. This hotel is definitely geared towards the business traveler, but my 14 year old niece liked it as well and really took advantage of the free wi-fi in the business lounge. If you are looking for a central spot to stay in London and are used to the amenities and size of an American-style hotel, I'd highly recommend this hotel.
