“Ok if you need to stay in the area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2009

The Delta Toronto East is located at the exit of HWY401 and Kennedy, in the eastern part of the Greater Toronto area. It is conveniently located for a road trip stopover, of for people who need to do business in this area (as well as nearby cities such as Ajax, Pickering, Oshawa).

From the outside, this looks like a well-maitained and relatively modern hotel. Unfortunately, as soon as you step in, signs of the "maturity" of this hotel becomes more obvious. This ranges from room layout, look of the common areas and that "old hotel" smell. Don't get me wrong - this is a very clean hotel which has been properly maintained - I feel however that it is long overdue for one of those massive makeovers.

The gyn is ok, with your typical treadmil/ellipticak/bike and weights setup - with at least 2/3 of each. The "look" of the gym itself is average, as per my previous comments. The hotel nicest feature is its pool area, with a waterslide in a very open, atrium-like concept.

I was offered a very nice suite on a lower floor, with complimentary high speed internet and breakfast (due to status). HSIA was very reliable and the breakfast buffet was "adequate". The bed was very comfortable and bathroom was of a good size.

Staff is very friendly and relatively quick to respond to problems (there were a few minor maintenance issues that were promptly adressed by staff)

Frankly, there are a few newer hotels a little bit more to the East (Ajax area), which in my opinion are now superior to this location, depending on what you value. If you are looking for a "true" full-service hotel, this is one of your only option. If you prefer "nice and modern", I would recommend that you look somewhere else.

“Enjoyed our time at the Delta”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2009

We stayed 2 nights at the Delta Toronto East and over all we enjoyed it. The room was large and clean. The front desk was very helpful and friendly and always greeted us when we entered the hotel. There was a large pool, a kiddie pool and a whirlpool. Unfortunately the water slide was closed when we used the pool both times. The kids enjoyed the little froggie slide in the kiddie pool though. The breakfast was rather expensive so we went to Mcdonald's instead but we did have dinner at the hotel bar on both nights and kids 6 and under get to eat for free. The staff was very friendly in the restaurant and the food was pretty good. It's a little pricey to stay there but we booked the zoo package and recieved our tickets to the zoo so I didn't think the price was too bad.

“Nice hotel for business travel”

It's not the cheapest place to stay in the area but the rooms feature huge bathrooms, terry cloth bathrobes, and the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Staff is very friendly; buffet breakfast is good but pricey ($20 with tip) - lots of healthy choices though. The pool and waterslide would be a hit with families. Will be back!

“Could be better”

This hotel has good and bad points. Firstly, it is important to know that the much better rooms are the more expensive ones in the tower section of the hotel (at the right, past reception). The cheaper rooms look out over the indoor pool area and are horrendous (I made the mistake of staying in one of these rooms a few years ago). This time I booked the better rooms, which included free Internet, free local phone calls and complimentary bottled water (the small bottles). The room was on the upper floors and it was spacious. No issues with the bathroom. However, the bed wasn't very comfortable and the sheets were not the correct size and kept slipping off. We ate at the sushi restaurant (Sagano) on the top floor and it was very good, with fresh sushi and great service. Check in was friendly and efficient and the agent confirmed the room rate and the free Internet, local calls and water. Unfortunately, you have to walk past the pool area below (sort of an open concept) to get to the elevators and the smell of chlorine can be overpowering. The concierge was great at booking a very early taxi to the train station. However, check out at 6 am did not go well. The woman on duty read our room number incorrectly and charged us for the wrong room. It was only after my credit card was charged and I checked the receipt that I realized that I had paid for someone's else room (so much for ensuring guests' privacy). So the credit card charges had to be reversed and the correct room charged. To top it off, we were charged for the local calls which were supposed to be free and even had a little "dispute" as to whether a toll-free number should be charged. The nerve! However, the charges were removed. All of which took an extra twenty minutes I wasn't counting on, especially as we had a train to catch and the taxi was waiting outside. Very frustrating, given the fact that the agent should have confirmed our name and room number prior to charging us, not just giving us an amount. Next time we will try another hotel as this one seems a little hit and miss.

  • Liked — The location was convenient (near the Guildwood train station)
  • Disliked — Being charged for the wrong room and local calls (which were supposed to be free)

“Great customer service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2008

I stayed at the Delta Toronto East for two nights after reserving through Priceline. I had a great experience with the front desk. For the price you pay when you book through Priceline you expect to get a basic room. The front desk staff never made me feel like anything but a regular guest and responded to my needs immediately.

Having asmtha I had an alergic reaction in the first room I was in (likely perfume from a previous guest). They immediately moved me to another room and we had a great nights sleep. I was working from the hotel the next morning but at 10 a.m. it sounded like a jackhammer above my head. I called the front desk and she said that they were doing a stress test and it shouldn't last long. It stopped (likely for a lunch break) at 12:15 and started again at 1 p.m. So, I called the front desk and said I couldn't take it any more and she said she was sorry. She told me I would be moved to an upgraded room. Within 5 minutes the bell man was at my door to take me and my bags to the new room. While it was a pain to pack up I was really glad to not have the jackhammer above my head.

I would reccomend this hotel for sure. While some fixtures are worn it is clean and has great furnishings. The fee for parking of $12 per day is what it is and the $10 for 24 hours of internet is reasonable. For a real treat eat at Sagano!

  • Liked — Clean, staff outstanding.
  • Disliked — Having to move.
