I discovered Le Refuge a while back with my now husband, after being stranded in Mont Tremblant due to a snow storm. We truly did find refuge in this bed and breakfast that evening, as it was the first place we came across after a long day at Spa Scandinave (http://www.scandinavetremblant.com/en/).
What can I say. That first night at Le Refuge was the most romantic evening I have ever spent at any hotel (let alone B&B). There is an enormous amount of love and charm that has been put into every room (there are five rooms in total). We spent that first night at Chambre Chevreuil, which is in the mid-range price of the 5 rooms available. There are two balconies overlooking large fields of green as well as Mount Ryan. The bathroom is elegant and country style. We spotted deer walking around the property making the whole experience even more charming. The breakfast served the following morning would put any other breakfast I have eaten to shame! Every tiny detail was thought through by the owner and our now friend - Robert.
Based on this experience, we decided to get married at the Refuge. We invited our immediate family and rented out all 5 rooms this past weekend. This time, we stayed at the "piece de resistance" - the Suite Tremblant (I_N_C_R_E_D_I_B_L_E - beautiful view of the mountain, awesome jacuzzi, well worth the extra $$). The whole weekend was the most unforgettable experience (I have posted some pics to give an idea of what is so hard to describe in words). The location is great, you are walking distance from the beach and a 2 minute driving distance from the Tremblant Village. Some excellent restaurants we visited during our stay which I would recommend to anyone visiting are:
- Cayenne Grill (on Chemin du Village) - http://www.cayennegrilltremblant.com
- Le Grill (in St-Jovite) http://www.legrill.ca/
The restaurants above and most restaurants outside of the village are far superior in my opinion, as they are less commercial, leading to a local charm and so delicious!!
I will speak for myself and let the other 15 people at our wedding give their own review. This weekend was truly the most memorable weekend of my life. Not only did I marry the man I love, but I did it at a location that was very special to the both of us, and boy did it not disappoint! There was such peace in the grounds where the wedding took place (Le Refuge has a lot of open space and we maximized on this to do an outdoor wedding). We spent our evenings having great dinners at the dining room, then heading outside, lighting a fire on Robert's one of two fireplaces, having a drink and chatting for hours. We would all head to bed and sleep so peacefully in our comfy beds. It truly became our home in those 4 days and it was incredibly hard to leave :(
Overall - excellent stay! Some tips for anyone visiting:
- I would recommend the Suite Tremblant for ultra romance, however the Chambre Chevreuil offers just as great an atmosphere for a slightly lower price;
- Definitely have the incredible breakfasts served by Robert in the morning, you will not regret it!
- Walk approx. 1km to the right of Le Refuge (away from the Village) and you will encounter the start of a huge string of hiking/biking/rollerblading trails. There are rivers, waterfalls, lots of gorgeous birds and trees, that can keep you entertained for hours (ask Robert for a map, he can get you started)
- If you are planning on dining out, try to stay away from the commercialized restaurants in the village and take the Chemin du Village for some trendier and tastier choices. I mentioned a couple above, but there are many more on Chemin du Village and in St-Jovite that came highly recommended to us (including Z bar & grill: http://www.zbargrill.com/), La Petite Cachee (http://www.petitecachee.com/) and more.
Please feel free to contact me if you need any further info. I can confidently say that I would not stay anywhere else when visiting Mont-Tremblant in the future, as no other place holds that amount of charm, warmth and beauty.
