“Ideal introduction to Ireland”

We booked our holiday with Darragh Cottages for the following reasons.

We wanted an attractive self catering lodge that would keep us warm and dry, Somewhere to sleep, eat, and enjoy each others company. We wasn't expecting (or wanting for that matter) anything more or less. People who would like a holiday at a luxury hotel in Cork city ........... should probably book a luxury hotel in Cork city.

The location was ideal for links to Irish tourist attractions, less than an hour away was Blarney, a little over an hour was Kerry and in between each location were amazing views and interests.

Closer to the cottages (5 minutes) was what I will only describe as some of the best mountain biking trails in the UK & Ireland. Ballyhoura mountain was simply amazing, and I can't recommend it enough. This hidden Gem can be ridden all day, giving you anything from 17km of easy going family riding to 52km for the more advanced rider... Bikes can be hired at Kilmallock during the week or at the trail head on weekends. If walking is more your thing, then there are walking trails too.

I can't believe anyone would complain about walking a MIGHTY FULL HALF MILE to a pub?!?!?!? this rather nice leisurly walk can be done in a few minutes, whilst taking in some of the beautiful local scenery. Yes, the roads can be slightly dodgy, but as long as you're aware that vehicles do use them i'm sure you'll survive. J.J.DALY'S was an awesome little bar. where we spent an absolutely brilliant night with some wonderful local people. We laughed all night, and would have stayed into the early hours if we hadn't have had an early start. My only regret being not finding any time to go back.

The television / satellite thing didn't bother me too much, yes there was only 2 channels, but that really wasn't much of a trauma, however we did take a portable DVD player, for those rainy nights, of which there was only 1. I'm sure Gerry will change this in the future, but in a way, it really wasn't missed.

In closing, We had a wonderful time in Ireland, and at Darragh Cottages, they were clean, comfortable, quainte and more than adequate for our requirements. I will most deffeniately recommend to my friends, and will deffeniately go back again.

thank you Gerry for looking after us so well.

“A place of beauty and tranquillity to return to after a day exploring the beautiful countryside of Southern Ireland”

The cottages are exquisite and surrounded by beautiful countryside.
The facilities are great. After spending many nights in different hotels it was good to stay in a place that felt more like home. We liked the space and freedom that the cottages provided, much better than being confined to a hotel room. As we did not feel like self-catering the owners provided us with suggestions on nearby restaurants, one of which was truly amazing and became our favourite of the holiday.
The owners are extremely helpful ensuring that guests have everything they need. They provided a better class of service than I have experienced in some 5 Star Hotels. They have an abundance of local knowledge which they are happy to share with their guests. This was great as we were able to experience the true beauty of Southern Ireland exploring quaint little towns as well as the tourist spots of Cork, Killarney, Cliffs of Moher and many other beautiful places that we may not have otherwise come across had we stayed on the main roads. It was also helpful to be told where to visit weather permitting, for us this meant that we did not waste valuable holiday time travelling to Dingle only to find we could not see anything due to the bad weather.
Darragh Cottages is a great place base for exploring the sites of Southern Ireland

This was our third visit to Darragh Cottages .We were in a different cottage from our previous visit and found it to be as charmingly traditional as the other cottages.Although traditional in style all modern conveniences were provided and we had a very comfortable stay.Mitchelstown is a short drive away and has an excellent supermarket so once stocked up all that remains is to relax in the beautiful, peaceful surroundings. We enjoyed long walks, sightseeing,a round of golf ,reading and good eating and peaceful sleeping.BLISS !

“Heavenly - but not for the lovers of the bright lights!”

These cosily equipped cottages are surrounded by open green space: the scenery is gently beautiful; the only sounds are of the birds, the breeze in the trees, the lowing of cows and the occasional tractor. The hosts are friendly yet discreet - there when called upon but they do not intrude.
This is a place to come to unwind, finish your novel, enjoy the company and conversation of good companions. The pub is 200 yards away and there are no streetlights, which allows you to count the stars.
This is not a place for people who are easily bored and cannot amuse themselves.

“A place to experience the true Ireland”

I have stayed at the Darragh Cottages 7 or 8 times since 2001. I love being there. I have gone alone and I have gone with family members. I have family in the immediate area.

This is the real Ireland. I have traveled to many parts of the Country and always love coming back to this quiet, beautiful spot. You are paying for the solitude - and it is a bargain.

It is not fancy, but it is cozy. It sits on top of a hillside, with amazing views of the green hills, grazing sheep and cattle and ever-changing sky. You are on your own here, but that is why you would stay out in the country instead of in town. You need a car and a love of exploring. There are ruins, prehistoric stone circles and ancient settlements, castles, great restaurants and classic Irish culture within a short distance of the Cottages.

The Boylans are gracious but not hovering. You don't stay at the Darragh cottages for the TV reception or laundry room. Dress warmly, no matter what month you go and bring your walking shoes.

You go to the Darragh Cottages to get away. In the process you can find yourself.
