“Great stop over!”

My boyfriend and I stayed at the An Grianan Hotel whilst travelling through Ireland by car over the Easter holidays. The hotel was great! We were checked in very quickly at around 10pm at night. The staff were friendly and the room was lovely. We had a drink in the bar which seemed to have a good atmosphere, but we only had time for one drink after we had settled into the room.

When we got up in the morning the breakfast room was empty. The chef personally came out to take our order and made whatever we asked for. As well as the cooked breakfast, there was a selection of cereals, toast etc. to help yourself.

All in all we were very impressed by the An Grianan & would love to go back in the future. The decor & setting is beautiful, I think it is a renovated church.

Stayed in An Grianan Hotel, Burt, Co. Donegal, on the 24th April 2009, following attendance at a Daniel O'Donnell Concert. The staff are very pleasant, friendly and very very helpful. They go out of their way to ensure your every comfort. The hotel itself is very impressive and very well landscapes in the midst of the most delightful scenery in Donegal. On entering the hotel one has to be more than impressed with the layout of the foyer. The bedrooms are spotless and very comfortable, guaranteeing a good nights sleep. As for the cost of staying, it too is very good.

“Spoil yourself”

We stayed for a wedding as we both like to spoil ourselves when we get away from the kids! Fantastic hotel. The staff are a pleasure and the hotel itself is beautifully decorated and built to look like An Grianan Fort. The rooms are comfortable and well decorated although even in July it felt a little cool.
The wedding itself was really well set out and the food was excellent. The way they had decorated the function hall and the champagne reception was a credit to any hotel.
One little gripe was that the bride and groom felt that not all the wine they had brought with them was used on the night and there was no offer of returning it to them. They decided that they had such a great wedding that they wouldnt make an issue out of it. I think if it was me I would have made a bit more noise considering that they were charged corkage for about a dozen bottles they did not get. The groom actually said that he had reduced the tip he was leaving for the wedding service by £100 to pay the difference so the staff lost out.
Highly recommend this hotel though.

“A Member Of Staff Swore At My Partner For No Reason”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2008

We stayed in this establishment in June, since our stay we had been hoping that the management show us professional courtesy and give us an apology for the treatment we encountered but this did not transpire. We booked a night in June as friends were having a private party there, - we bitterly regret booking a night there.
We arrived early and to be fair check in was very quick and efficient. The room was ok for the rate we paid, very basic and not at all luxurious - the trouble started when we went downstairs, we decided to eat in the adjoining restaurant - we were told that no booking would be needed - when we entered the room and stood at the desk a very abrupt older lady laughed into our faces when we asked if we could have a table for two, she proceeded to then tell us we had no hope of securing a table - she was exactly the same with a couple behind us and I heard them comment on how rude she was. We went into the bar and the bar man very kindly offered to ask the kitchen make us something we could eat in the bar - he was a real gent. After our bad experience we proceeded to enjoy the party and just before final rounds my partner went up to the bar where a bar man was serving a group of people a round of drinks. After being ignored after the bar man finished with his order my partner said excuse me I am next in the queue, the bar person said that serving time was over, even though it was not final round time and even though my partner then saw him serve another round of drinks to his friends. My partner informed him that he saw him do so and the bar man got very irrate, and told my partner that he was not serving any more drink and to [--] O** - my partner was so shocked that he demanded to see the manager, the manager investigated and sacked the staff member on the spot. I all our travels we have never been so rudely treated - we did not get any formal apology and in the subsequent emails we sent after to get a satisfactory conclusion, the manager did absolutely nothing at all to show any form of professional ethics. I will never return to this hotel and to be honest - there are many much more warm and friendly establishments in the area. If management accept this type of behavior in their staff, it is no wonder that they do not follow up with guests who have a genuine issue with their service - an absolute disgrace from start to finish - not helped by a very unprofessional general manager !!
