“A truly enjoyable experience in Ardmore House.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2009

We stayed two nights with Christina in Ardmore House. It was a truly enjoyable experience as we were greeted with tea and fresh homemade scones on arrival. We were then shown to our room, which had a beautiful canopy bed and had the most wonderful views of the Slieve Bloom mountains. On our first evening, we enjoyed a scenic walk and relaxed by the open turf fire. On our second day we took a drive over the Slieve Bloom mountains which were spectacular. Later that evening we went for food in Birr and then headed back to the local pub in kinnitty, where there was a great irish music session taking place and we were pleasantly surprised to hear Christina play the fiddle as part of the group. Each morning we had a most wholesome full irish breakfast, with homemade brown bread. We had a fantastic break and will most definately return.

“Gracious Old Victorian in a convenient location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2009

The Ardmore House is conveniently located and has ample parking. The house is a proud Victorian with high ceilings and a lovely peat fire. When we arrived, Christina was not there, and we were taken to our room by one of her staff. Shortly thereafter, we were told that we needed to change rooms, because a larger family needed our room. We were moved from a spacious room with a jacuzzi, to a much smaller room with only a shower. When we returned from dinner, Christina made us tea and told us she was going out for a walk. She left us in the house without any staff for the rest of the evening, which made us feel somewhat uncomfortable, so we eventually went up to our room and went to bed. Breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary. Portions were smaller than that found at other B & Bs. When asked if we could use her dryer to dry our very wet clothes, she told us to hang them in front of the radiator. She is very knowledgeable about the area, and we would have loved to hear her play the fiddle.

I remember these guests very well because they changed the date of their reservation so many times before they arrived and requested me to find a storyteller for them, which I went to a lot of effort to do with success.
As this is a one-person operation I do have to leave the house to do shopping hence I was absent when these guests arrived. Laura my niece who works with me occasionally mistakenly put these guests into the wrong room. I had informed these guests by e-mail before they arrived that the room they had originally asked for was not available as by the time they finally decided on the date they wished to stay, a family had reserved this room.
After serving tea and home baked scones to these guests I went for a short walk. I then drove to the house of the storyteller, in the next village to check that everything was OK as arranged with him to meet these guests and tell storied for them the next morning. That took some time to do.
Breakfast at Ardmore is a choice of fruit juices, cereals, fresh and dried fruit, local organic yogurt, Full Irish Breakfast {2 pieces Bacon, 2 sausages, 1 black 1 white pudding, half a tomatoes and 1 fried free range egg}, Scrambled eggs with Irish Smoked Salmon or a 2 egg omelette of your choice, home made Irish Soda Bread, toast, homemade cheeses scones, home made preserves. Unfortunately my dryer was not working, hence the suggestion to use the radiator to dry her clothes. I play fiddle on Wednesday nights at one of the local pubs with a group of friends. It is a very enjoyable night with local singers and musicians.

“Delightful village setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2009

Our stay with Christina was most enjoyable. The Victorian house set in it's own grounds and beautiful gardens was so well appointed, and right at the edge of the typically delightful Irish Village of Kinnitty. It is remarkable just how well positioned Kinnitty is for so many nearby towns of interest, yet allows for the quietness one associates with Ireland from a previous age. Thanks again Christina for such excellent hospitality, we'll definitely be back.

“perfect in many ways”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2009

We stayed two nights in Ardmore House and is was as good as it gets. The house is beautiful with very clean rooms and full of atmosphere. The turf fire was burning all day and the breakfast was superb. The surroundings are perfect for walking in the Slieve Bloom Mountains or a visit to a nearby town or site of interest. The proprietor Cristina did everything and more to make our stay as pleasant as possible.

“lovely warm home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2009

One of our favorite evenings during our trip to Ireland was spent at the Ardmore House. Christina welcomed us warmly, offered my husband and me the pretty, spacious front bedroom, since we were celebrating an anniversary, and helped to settle the kids in lovely comfort of upstairs bedrooms. Because we had expressed interested in eating in a castle, she had also called ahead to Kinnity Castle (just up the road) and secured for us a special table in the Monk's Dungeon. After a delicious feast, we met back up with Christina at the local pub for an unforgettable jam-packed traditional Irish music event. The locals and Christina herself (one of the fiddlers) did not disappoint! Our teenagers and we alike had a fabulous time. A sound sleep and a full Irish breakfast topped off one of our favorite memories.
