We stayed here for a week supporting our son in his Ironman challenge. The rooms are really lovely, around a courtyard and pool, we had the ground floor mostly to ourselves. The host and his right hand man were great, really helpful, and the breakfasts were brilliant. Great value for money, very relaxed setting. The only downside was the ongoing building work upstairs, but this wasn't too intrusive and should be finished by next season. The lack of a proper kitchen meant that the one evening meal wasn't great, but this didn't spoil our stay. Overall we loved it !

Room tip: Ground floor rooms best

If you want to get a flavor of Cozumel that is off the all-inclusive, resort circuit, you can do no better than staying at Casita de Maya. Dan, the owner, and his terrific team of Jolie and Daniel, are warm, friendly and create an environment in which you'd like to hang out. It's like staying at a friend's wonderfully comfortable home. I stayed in the upstairs king bed room which was spacious, decorated nicely to capture the essence of the island and outfitted with a terrific bathroom 'complex' that I'd love to bring home with me. There's a remarkable attention to detail in a place that seems relaxed. Free phone calls to the US and Canada, free wifi, and a microwave and fridge if you want to handle any of your own food (I didn't).

Dan went and above and beyond to make my stay memorable. We had nice conversations about the island, his (literally) building the Casita, and suggestions on where to eat and where to cheer on my friend who was racing in the Ironman triathlon. And when I needed a cab and the phone lines on the island were acting up, Dan jumped on his bike and retrieved one from the nearby airport for me. You can walk to the 'downtown' area in about 15-20 minutes or take an inexpensive cab ride. Important to consider if you want to be on the waterfront or on the main drag. Honestly, I enjoyed walking to experience and witness a bit of the Cozumel that is often missed when people race to the water.

Casita de Maya is hard to beat. I'll be back.

Room tip: Loved being on the second floor king-bed room. Comfortable, airy, with a little more privacy than the rooms downstairs.

The perfect getaway for first timers to Cozumel. Cozy, comfortable, clean and convenient. We had the upstairs King room it was spacious, a/c worked well, nice TV and refrigerator. Dan organized a rental car for us all the paper work was done on site no worries.

The food prepared here exceeded my expectations - beans, egg's, fresh tortillas, guacamole, chips, beer - excellent.

We stayed here for 3 days then moved to the Palace. I wish we stayed here for the duration of our vacation - We made many friends and all the best to the staff.

I stayed at the lovely Casita de Maya for a weekend in October, and was impressed with pretty much everything I came across. I stayed in a queen room, which was tastefully decorated and well appointed. It contained a bar fridge and a microwave, as well as a flat screen tv. Lots of lights with controls near the bed, a spacious close to hang your things, and a bathroom with a roomy shower that you could actually turn around in. Plentiful hot water and bath linens completed it, and a face cloth was a nice surprise as very few hotels in Latin America have them. My room had windows that faced the courtyard, which itself sported a small but quite adequate pool that was bright, clean, and perfect for a dip after a hot day. I was well taken care of by Dan, the owner, and Daniel, the Jack of all trades and cook extraordinaire. Polite, friendly and efficient, both gentlemen saw that I had everything I needed. And two resident fur balls assured me of the pet love I cannot have at home due to my travel schedule.

The only issue would be the proximity to the downtown are of Cozumel, it would be too long a walk. Fortunately cabs are cheap, and it did not cost me more than 30- 50 pesos depending on where I was going. A small price to pay for such a beautiful spot. When my travels take me to Cozumel again, I will most definitely stay there.
