“NOISY! but cheap and with a great location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2009

La Noria has its ups and its downs. First of all, the location is superb- it's right on Insurgentes, which is the street you turn onto from the main highway coming from Palenque- it's just a few blocks from the main plaza and the pedestrian street and everything is super walkable. When you first enter the hotel, it looks quite nice- the three floors of rooms look out onto a main atrium. The rooms are tastefully decorated in Mexican-style furniture, and are quite big. And all for only 550 pesos ($42)! However, once you settle in you realize how noisy the place is. Every sound made in any part of the hotel ricochets off of the atrium walls and enters your room. The single-pane windows and thin door are no match for every word, cough, footstep or car alarm made in or near the hotel. Perhaps the Canadian girl down the hall decides to have a chat on her cell phone? She might as well be in bed with you jabbering in your ear. No peace and quiet to be had at La Noria, expect a fitful night's sleep and kiss the afternoon siesta goodbye. It's a good value with a great location, but only if you can stand the noise.

“Safe, charming, comfortable — and great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2009

My husband and I are backpacking around the world this year. A lot of places we stay in aren't all that great, we have a strict budget and that rarely includes a lot of frills. We walked into La Noria (located very centrally on one of the most popular streets) and saw that the sign said 700 pesos ($50 — note also that this was Semana Santa, and all rates around town had risen substantially). Just as we were about to turn on our heels the front desk staff informed us that they could do 350 pesos ($25). Still on our high end but we caved when we saw the room.
The hotel itself is very lovely, lots of light, color and flowers. Everything is kept very clean and nicely maintained. The rooms are bright and large, with nice dark wood furnishings and a craft-influenced decor. The bathrooms are huge by Mexican standards, with fantastic water pressure (one of only 2 places we stayed in Mexico where we could boast that...). Big closets, comfortable beds and desks. I really couldn't find anything about the room which could have been better. Squarely in the category of anything for about $150-$200 in the states — and for only $25!
We lived in our little lap of luxury in the hotel. We found it to be safe (but we do travel with an extending cord lock, and the construction of the closets in this room allowed us to lock our baggage inside). My single complaint was the wi-fi. The hotel appears to "borrow" it from somewhere else... It is available only in the lobby, and only between 8am-8pm. I can't complain much because wi-fi is very mixed in Mexico as is, and we were happy to be able to get some work done, even if it had to be in the lobby.
La Noria is located very close to everything, but we'd especially like to recommend El Caldero just north of the hotel on Insurgentes. Cold San Cristóbal nights are perfect for sampling their selection of typical Mexican soups, of which our favorite was their namesake: a black bean, bacon, epazote and ham stew.
The hotel allows for parking at a lot around the corner, but it is only free between 9pm and 9am, otherwise it is about 75 cents an hour (street parking is easy and we used it everyday for four days with no problems whatsoever).

“Outstanding Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2008

For a mid-range hotel, comfortable beds and pillows, large room with two doubles, large wardrobe, lots of hot water, desk, clearTV with many dozens of channels including a few in English, large bathroom with large shower, very clean, better than usual lighting, attractive interior, a block and a half from the main plaza. The posted price at the front desk was 500 pesos, but we were quoted 350 pesos, which was a great value for the two of us. I noticed some of the rooms had kingsize beds instead of two doubles.

  • Liked — Excellent value overall
  • Disliked — There is nothing I liked least.

“I was really satisfied”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2008

Hotel clean, spacious and graceful. In the town centre.
The only negative thing was that they don't have the breakfast service in the hotel.
Very good for price / quality.
