“Great hotel for spring breakers!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2007

Before staying at the Playa Suites, I had some concerns based on the bad reviews. I went with a group of people for spring break and we all stayed at the hotel. I thought the hotel was excellent for spring
break students. First, it was the hottest spring break hotel on the beach. Every room has a view of the ocean. Everyone was staying at this hotel. The pool was the perfect size and was great for partying and getting drinks. The hotel is located right on the beach and there
are tons of chairs available to rent for two dollars a day. You can also rent an umbrella for the same price. The waiters from the hotel wait on you at the beach, and most are very accomodating and if you become friends with them, will offer you helpful insider tips about the area and what to do. The room itself is very spacious. The floors
in the rooms are all tile, which looks very new and modern. There is a bedroom area as well as a sitting area with a pull out couch/bed. There is also a refrigerator and a counter area with a sink that is perfect for a bar set up. The bathrooms are ok, however the shower water leaks onto the floor and it gets flooded after a few people have taken a shower. The staff was a little unfriendly, however when I called housekeeping for towels or soap, they brought it within 15 minutes. If you are looking for an amazing hotel to stay at with your family, obsviously you don't want to come here. There are plenty of pricier hotels like the Hyatt, that are probably much nicer. However, if you are coming for an awesome spring break hotel where there is always something going on and that is right on the beach, this is a great choice for you.

“Terrible, Terrible, Terrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2007

I just came back from Acapulco and a week at Playa Suites (2/10-2/17/07). The pictures are somewhat deceiving since the Towers are old and the renovations (if any) were terrible. We were there on time share and had a "suite", consisting of a bedroom with 2 full beds and a "sitting area". The only TV was in the bedroom and there was no kitchen. A coffeemaker was available but no microwave or refrigerator as stated in some of the ads.

The hallways smelled musty, one could smell the food in the halls from the suites that had kitchens, there was no soundproofing so sounds carried from the halls to the rooms and loud and inconsiderate guests making noise in the halls after 11:00 PM was common. The bathroom shower had no light, the drain did not stay in the tub or the sink and the towels (when the maids brought them) were like sandpaper. The water, however, was hot...that's the one positive we found. When we called for towels at 4:00 pm (they took the dirty ones but did not replace them) the towels were brought to the room at 11 PM. We never received a schedule of activities so we had no idea what was going on.

If you choose to stay there try not to take the meal plan. The food was just average and pretty boring. Breakfast was okay since the eggs were cooked to order, but there never was enough bacon and it was never ready when your eggs were.

The pool is small but adequate, although it is old, I never saw a jacuzzi, the undertow is pretty fierce at the beach although you can travel by bus to safer beaches.

When you check in you get one key with a keycard attached. The keycard needs to be inserted into a slot in the room in order to turn on the lights so you cannot leave lights on when you leave the room. With 4 people staying in the room it made it difficult if we wanted to go in different directions since only one pair could have the key. If someone wanted to nap and took the key the others had to wake him/her up in order to enter the room.

All in all, if this is the only option for Acapulco, go someplace else.

“Hated it! an Absolute Disgrace.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2007

I stayed at the Playa Suites in Febraury 2007 and it was an absolute disgrace. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL AND ALL OF MEXICO IN GENERAL. The good weather is not worth the risk of getting KILLED!

The hotel staff was rude and unhospitable. The accomodations were old, wrecked, torn, broken or missing. The pool is small and not clean. The food was barely edible and always the same. A lot of the amenities were closed down and meant that you had to line up for breakfast, service, or assistance ($3,000 to line up for breakfast - I DONT THINK SO). The hotel caters to the Mexican travelers and treats all other guest like second class citizens. There was not one redeemable characteristic of this hotel. The Best Western ought to be sued. This was without doubt the worst hotel stay in my 40 years.

NOT ONLY THAT, while my wife and our two kids (8 and 5) were there 12 people were murdered in one week on the streets of Alcapulco, 4 more were shoot, but did not die, and two people FROM OUR HOTEL were mugged, one on the bus with dozens of mexican people around (not all of Mexico, just Alcapulco). That is just what I know about, I am sure there were countless other crimes that occured that I am not aware of. It is simply not worth the risk of loss of life to go to Alcapulco. And, from my conversations with law enforcement in Mexico, it will not be getting any better.

STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY. It simply is not safe. There are pleanty of other places to go to where you do not risk dying. The Mexican population has no respect for life, for travellers or for themselves. Do yourself a favour and find a safe, clean place. YES, you may have to pay a little more, but a $1,000 on a terrible trip is just wasted money. You might as well just burn it. Even if you have to spend 50% more, or $1,500, at least you will get something for you money and you will not have to avoid gunfire, muggers, criminals and theives.

“Stay away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2006

Just returned from a one week stay. Hotel is in dire need of upgrading and repair. Mold and mildew common. Suites have small fridge, a sink but no microwave. There is a shortage of wash cloths. Cable TV "under repair" for last three years? Only three local spanish stations viewable. Electricity totally shuts off when you leave your room thus continuous water running out of your fridge when you return. No in room safe. You must leave your valuables at front desk and sign a waiver that the hotel is not responsible for anything left in your room.
Buffet meals were awful. We ate at a different hotel every day.

This hotel is for the locals, not for the tourists. Would not reccomend thisplace to anyone.

“This places bites!”

My family and I stayed at this hotel the second week of August 2006. We arrived at 10pm and the receptionist refused to send up someone to install a crib for my 8 month old nephew. He was forced to sleep in an adult bed on our first night there. Secondly, the AC in my room had a leak. They fixed it but I was up until 1am waiting for them to come. My room smelled of humidity the entire time there. The staff was extremely rude and never helpful. THe restaurant has the dirtiest dishes I have ever seen. Twice I had to go get a new cup cause of lipstick marks on the supposedly washed cup. When we finally talked to the manager, all he tried to do was sell us a VIP package. This hotel is part of a Best Western chain and when I emailed the corporate headquarters with my complaint, they basically called us liars and acted as if my complaints were not valid. Seriously, save yourself the trouble and money and go somewhere else. Plus, the reception area has no AC and it is ridiculously hot in the restaurant.
