My wife and I recently visited Acapulco for 7 nights with our 2 young children, ages 2 and 9 months and their grandparents. We all had a WONDERFUL time! The resort is beautiful (you must get a pool view though...the first few nights we were looking at an ugly, dilapidated building, then we requested to be moved). We arranged beforehand a driver, Roberto Alaracon, to pick us up from the airport (Roberto was recommended from this site many times), and he was the BEST!! Contact him before your trip via email at robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx
He was there waiting when we arrived with a sign and we stopped at Walmart on the way to the hotel so we could stock our fridge for the week. We all felt very comfortable and safe with Roberto and in Acapulco...he was our driver the whole week and we took a full day city tour with him (complete with bottomless, complimentary tequila shots :) One night my wife and I had the BEST romantic Mexican dinner at Su Casa...which was arranged by Roberto. We had an amazing outside table view of the city, ocean, and the food/drinks were great!
The kids enjoyed the massive pools and lazy river every day and we enjoyed the relaxing time at the Palace. We didn't enjoy the beach so much at the Grand Mayan (a short shuttle away), simply because we were bombarded with peddlers every few minutes (not associated with the resort), but they were quite annoying. So we stuck to the pools and lazy river and mostly ate in our rooms or through the Samba at the pool (good quesadillas). We enjoyed one family dinner at the Grand Mayan at Cafe De Lago, which was very good.
There were many events and activities planned while we were there, such as karoke nights and happy hours, but we did not participate too much. Overall, this was a great family vacation...Acapulco is very safe and we look forward to returning soon!
