“Fantastic hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2010

My now husband and I got married in Grand Bahamas this time last year, Pelican Bay hosted our wedding and all our guests stayed here with us.

Friendly staff, clean rooms with great facilities - especially if you upgrade, you'll receive fresh pastries each morning delivered to your door and with the Nespresso machine in your room you won't need to go for breakfast. However, the breakfasts were amazing lots of fresh fruit, more pastries, fresh fruit juices, bagels and some days fresh salmon (yummy). Great views during breakfast.

The only thing I would say (being mad) about the coffee it was a little weak - but like I say the coffee machines in the room made up for it - oh, and there is a Starbucks across the road (at the Westin hotel). Had stayed there the year before and although very nice, this boutique hotel was much more friendly.

On the opposite side of the hotel (to the breakfast bar) is the Sabor Restaurant/Bar - we had our wedding breakfast here - what an amazing view over the port, watching all the huge yachts going by and the sun setting. Great cocktails and bar snacks too.

Overall would definately return and recommend to anyone staying in Freeport

“LOVED MY TOUR”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2010

I recently went on a cruise that had stopped in Freeport. I normally just go to Paradise Island and stay at Harborside in Atlantis. I have been told that Freeport is also nice as well and wanted to look around. I had been looking online and liked the reviews about the hotel. When I went to the hotel the staff was very friendly and allowed me to look around as well as answered and answered all my questions. One staff member in particular, Stanley Williams, offered me a tour of the hotel and took me to see the state room that I was interested in seeing. I really thought the hotel was very intimate especially the state room. The hotel is right next to the marketplace, so I had no problems finding it. I also liked how I was greeted by a friendly guard at the entrance of the hotel. I am really looking forward to coming back here and actually staying. The staff made me feel very welcomed.

“Best Boutique Hotel on Grand Bahama”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2010

If you want a different experience than the usual cookie cutter hotel, do yourself a favor and book with Pelican Bay. The service and room were top-notch. Comfy bed! Stylish rooms with great views. Reasonaly priced, breakfast included. Several pools. Nice grounds. Bikes to rent, get out and explore!

If there was anything we needed, wanted or requested, it was handled promptly and with the friendliness you'd expect when staying with friends. They do make you comfortable.

Sabor is the place to start your evening. Great staff, good drinks and the food is pretty excellent too. And it's right on the water. Check out the short stroll to Count Basie Square to shop and find entertainment and more good food and drink. Remember to grab something to feed the fish along the way in the marina. Grand Bahama is a place to relax, the island very laid back and you should spend every minute doing just that. If you chat with the locals you may discover a little hidden gem on Taino Beach called Tony Macaroni's where you never know who you'll run into there.

My favorite place for comfort food is Zorba's, Nick will see you are well taken care of, it's where the locals dine. Like a Greek diner in the states, they have everything. And it's all good.

Best driver on the island, prompt, courteous and safe, request Adrian when making your reservations, they'll know how to reach him.

“Good hotel...Nice location...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2010

We stayed at the Pelican Bay the first week of February 2010. We stayed at one of the suites on the fourth floor. Very spacious with a great balcony overlooking one of the bays. The suite was nicely equipped with a fridge, microwave, kitchen sink and a set of ceramic cups and dishes. Two coffee makers were almost too much for our needs. The TV system was a bit outdated ( there was a humming buzz coming out of it, easy to put you to sleep at night) although the programming was good.
The bedroom was nice and quiet even though it was facing the busier courtyard.

The location was great...not even a block from the Lucaya Marketplace, straw market and a variety of restaurants and bars. For those interested in the dolphin experience, UNEXSO was just next door! The hotel does not have its own beach but the next available beach is across the street at Our Lucaya Resort. Also, there is a beach at Taino Resort and that beach can be reached by a water taxi from the Pelican Bay.

The breakfast was great considering that it was included in the price of the room. We expected a true continental breakfast but it was much more than that. There was a smoked salmon, quiche, pigs-in-the-blanket, assortment of cheeses and deli meats on top of the regular bagels, breads, muffins, cereals, yogurts, etc. Fresh orange juice and grapefruit was a nice complement. In our suite, we also had a little "pre-breakfast" delivered consisting of a couple of pastries and an occasional fruit. This was also included in the total price and totally unexpected. However, a nice surprise.

The staff was helpful and friendly. Despite this, they could not fix the heating in the hot tub during the duration of our stay (4 days). The hot tub was bubbly but it wasn't "hot".

“Cannot be Number One!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2010

We selected Pelican Bay Hotel after seeing on Trip Advisor that it was rated number 1. The rate was reasonable and the fact that breakfast was included was a bonus (or so we thought!). The room was no more that one would expect from a cheap motel. The bathroom had rusted holes (plural) and was of a general poor standard - not a tile to be seen, only a waterproof panelling. In the bedroom, which was rather sparse, the air-conditioner sounded like a jumbo jet landing - which made us resort to using the fan. Breakfast comprised a sort of buffet - tiny plastic plates, plastic knives and forks plastic cups - which is all very hard to manage, when one can only eat outside, battling the winds. I would rather have paid extra and had a decent choice for breakfast. We looked at the Raddison and this looked much much better. Some of the pool furniture was broken and the staff who work at the pool restaurant served as though they were doing you a great favour. Avoid this hotel!
