We stayed at the Pelican Bay the first week of February 2010. We stayed at one of the suites on the fourth floor. Very spacious with a great balcony overlooking one of the bays. The suite was nicely equipped with a fridge, microwave, kitchen sink and a set of ceramic cups and dishes. Two coffee makers were almost too much for our needs. The TV system was a bit outdated ( there was a humming buzz coming out of it, easy to put you to sleep at night) although the programming was good.
The bedroom was nice and quiet even though it was facing the busier courtyard.
The location was great...not even a block from the Lucaya Marketplace, straw market and a variety of restaurants and bars. For those interested in the dolphin experience, UNEXSO was just next door! The hotel does not have its own beach but the next available beach is across the street at Our Lucaya Resort. Also, there is a beach at Taino Resort and that beach can be reached by a water taxi from the Pelican Bay.
The breakfast was great considering that it was included in the price of the room. We expected a true continental breakfast but it was much more than that. There was a smoked salmon, quiche, pigs-in-the-blanket, assortment of cheeses and deli meats on top of the regular bagels, breads, muffins, cereals, yogurts, etc. Fresh orange juice and grapefruit was a nice complement. In our suite, we also had a little "pre-breakfast" delivered consisting of a couple of pastries and an occasional fruit. This was also included in the total price and totally unexpected. However, a nice surprise.
The staff was helpful and friendly. Despite this, they could not fix the heating in the hot tub during the duration of our stay (4 days). The hot tub was bubbly but it wasn't "hot".
