“So much character!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2009

Beautiful setting, beautiful place. We felt like we were stepping back in time. The owner, Mark, told us that he designed Beau Rive to feel like an old colonial home.

We highly recommend splurging at least once on the hotel's 3-course nightly dinner. The ingredients are the freshest they can be and I don't think we've had a better meal anywhere. The coffee and fresh baking in the morning are wonderful, too.

When my husband & I travel, we always miss our animals. Mark's dogs and cat made us feel right at home! Especially the dog, Florence, who didn't leave our side the entire time. Although we really enjoyed their company, if you don't like animals, Mark is very conscious of keeping them from "bothering" guests.

The view to the Atlantic was awe-inspiring! After travelling for two weeks, this place was exactly what we needed for relaxation and romance.

“An Absolute Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2009

Beau Rive lives up to to its rave reviews. If there is a better view from any hotel in Dominica I haven't seen it. Mark Steele is a perfect host and has a terrific staff. The food is local and fabulous. Millicent and Florence (the dogs) do guide you to the beach. Rooms are spacious and cooled by the trade winds. This is a hotel to remember and should not be missed if you plan on visiting the rugged and beautiful windward side of the island.

“Elegance, Simplicity, Adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2009

Mark provides an elegant, simple environment to enjoy Dominica's amazing natural beauty. Missing dinner is simply a sin. Most ingredients come from the garden, and every meal is a culinary experience.

Mark goes out of his way to direct his guests to fun filled challenging adventures. My wife and I are coming back!

“Understated Elegance”

One of the last truly authentic hideaways left in the Carribean. The tangibles -- view, room, food and service -- are the best on the island, but it's the intangibles that set Beau Rive apart. Mark Steele, the owner/operator, does this for love, not money, and that's evident in everything from the great music he chooses at cocktail hour and dinner, the heady perfume of the lushly landscaped grounds, and his solicitousness for his guests. If it's possible to do "casual elegance" in one of the most remote spots in the Carribean, then Mark has done it. Guests seem to self-select for Beau Rive -- none of the packaged vacation sun worshippers here -- which adds to the experience. Plus, Beau Rive is a tremendous bargain. I've been telling Mark for years to raise his rates, and he's been asking me for years to write a review. I broke down first.

Beau Rive has a magnificent vista from every room, fine food, a helpful, friendly, smiling staff and the most comfortable beds with the loveliest sheets and pillows you will find in a hotel.
