One of the last truly authentic hideaways left in the Carribean. The tangibles -- view, room, food and service -- are the best on the island, but it's the intangibles that set Beau Rive apart. Mark Steele, the owner/operator, does this for love, not money, and that's evident in everything from the great music he chooses at cocktail hour and dinner, the heady perfume of the lushly landscaped grounds, and his solicitousness for his guests. If it's possible to do "casual elegance" in one of the most remote spots in the Carribean, then Mark has done it. Guests seem to self-select for Beau Rive -- none of the packaged vacation sun worshippers here -- which adds to the experience. Plus, Beau Rive is a tremendous bargain. I've been telling Mark for years to raise his rates, and he's been asking me for years to write a review. I broke down first.
