I found choose this casa based on the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. I have to say that this place more than lived up to my high expectations. Orlando, my host, was extremely friendly and helpful when I arrived in Havana. He found some great musicians for me to study with and also graciously accompanied me on various errands (getting money, negotiating etc) at my request.
The digs: the apartment is a typical Havana one, with a small terrace facing the street (a fairly busy one, but there is no hint of noise inside the apartment) plus an indoor one as well. The place is clean and cheerful with a billiards table and a colorful paint job. It was also extremely safe: I got a key to my own room and could come and go as I please.. . The price was also very reasonable for single room (queen bed) with a private bathroom and air conditioning (20 cuc) and included breakfast (I also paid a bit more for delicious dinners each night cooked by Tania, Orlando's wife.)
The location: The house in on Neptuno in Centro Habana, about a 10 minute walk to Prado and La Habana Vieja. It's very close to the Casa de la musica and not far to the malecon. I never took a taxi to go anywhere besides Vedado....your really don't need to unless walking more than a few blocks at a time is too much for you.
Overall, this is a great place to stay. Orlando and Tania are amazingly sweet and helpful (Orlando even called my girlfriend in the US for me to explain that my flight had been delayed when I couldn't) the place has A/C and is very affordable (I got better service than I did at some hotels that charge 4x as much in Habana). A real gem.
Encontre esta casa aqui en tripadvisor y fue buenismo...barato, limpio, seguro y central (cuartos con desayuno y aire condionado, por solo 20 CUC). . Gracias a Orlando y Tania para tenerme en su casista. Me gustaria volver!
