arrived on 17th February for two nights, check in quick and easy. Had requested in advance two rooms together and away from stairs and lifts. Given rooms 28 and 34, asked if they were next to each other and the receptionist didnt seem to know which I found odd. They werent next to each other but decided to try and make do, however room 34 is up a few stairs with a door that bangs closed. The room was beautiful and decided to stay as had a beautiful view of the courtyard and was a nice size. The temperature in the room was 26 degrees and red hot, with underfloor heating you could hardly walk on the bathroom floor. We rang down and they sent someone to have a look, whos first comment was I dont know about this control, never seen one, doesnt fill you with confidence. He thought he had fixed it and left. The room temperature continued to rise and after a stop at reception they had another look. He pressed a couple of buttons to turn it down but it climbed again, by the time it was 7.00 the temperature had rised to 28 degress. Reception agreed that it must be broken and moved us to another room. Clare the duty manager was very helpful and professional. The room we moved to had no view and a small window but was still nice and comfortable. The boys in the bar were friendly and couldnt do enough for you, we ate here and enjoyed our food, only downside is there is very few main meals on the bar menu and mostly made up of sandwiches and jacket potatoes. For this reason on the second night we chose to eat in Corbridge at the Black Bull, can recommend this for good food and nice atmosphere. Used the spa facilities which were nice although the steam room wasnt working. pool was warm and the jacuzzi good. Couldnt get one of the few seats around the pool to relax so left after a while after hoping one would become available. Sadly the electricity went off between 9.00 am and 10.00 am on Saturday morning and no water available, staff were helpful and even knocked to tell us they were sorry and trying to fix it and would be sorted in about 15 minutes. Visited go ape ropes course, Corbridge and Matfen while here. Would visit this hotel again, due to beautiful grounds and friendly staff.
