“Some good points but....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

Stayed here recently for an overnight with 2 course dinner included. Some lovely touches; the handwritten note on arrival welcoming us with the plate of sweet treats, the nice quality bed linen and toiletries in the bathroom, nice bathrobes, good quality coffee maker in the room and the well thought out mini bar. Whilst we found the room a little dark and small, we were ok with this. Unfortunately though the rooms are not soundproofed and neither of us slept a wink the whole night we stayed there due to our neighbours snoring - he might as well have been in the room with us! When mentioned to the receptionist the next day there was a shrug and a "nothing can be done about that". Not really what you wawnt to hear when you have paid for a decent night's sleep - a simple I am sorry to hear that would be some start. However, our greatest criticism is reserved for our dining experience. Having decided to take a walk down Barna pier before dinner, we entered the bar/bistro via the main door and had to make our way through about 10 smokers convening at the door - awful start! Please get a decent smoking area or at least move the bins for the cigarettes away from the front door so as not to encourage people to smoke there. It is extremely offputting to walk through a veil of smoke and ash before you sit down to dinner. The bar/bistro was packed, no harm there, but all we could hear was the scream of small babies and toddlers throwing tantrums - this was 7pm in the evening and we were in the restaurant until after 8.30pm and it continued for the whole time we were there. It was impossible to talk or enjoy any kind of ambience with that going on. Surely, there should be a curfew that hour of the evening for babies and toddlers or at least an area reserved for those who left their own kids at home to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet? The food was reasonable but a very limited choice and I think it would be better to give people a credit amount to choose from the menu. For a place that prides itself on its wine list, I was a little taken aback to be told "red or white" when I asked what wine was available by the glass. We were actually quite shocked by the whole experience - we had really looked forward to our stay and had anticipated great things. Maybe it was a once off but the combination of events made us just want to leave as quickly as possible the next morning.

“I love this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

I've recently been using Trip Advisor to find hotels for an upcoming trip and realised I must review the hotels I love instead of just reviewing when I've been let down by a hotel!
My boyfriend and I have stayed at The Twelve Hotel, Bearna on a few occasions over the past few years and I've always loved staying there. We even chose to stay there when attending a friend's wedding on the other side of Galway City as we didn't want to stay anywhere else.
I'm very fussy when it comes to accommodation and cannot fault this hotel. It's a little bit outside the centre of Galway City but I prefer to stay out there as it's quiter and more picturesque. It's only a few minutes' drive into the town though. The bedrooms are very clean, comfortable and spacious with nice décor. The bar and cafe downstairs are great, especially the fresh breads and pastries from the on-site bakery. I haven't eaten in the restaurant and so cannot comment on that. The staff and locals are very friendly.
I would highly recommend this hotel for a romantic weekend away, especially if you're in need of some relaxation. Take a stroll on the nearby strand too :-)

“a weekend of true irish hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2010

From our check in to our check out the Twelve Hotel and its staff were more than we could have asked for. The genuine welcome on check in from Nadine, Tom in the Bar Lounge who called us by names all weekend and made apoint of checking in with us when we where there. James the bartender who served drinks with a smile and great wit, and the General Manager Fergus runs a great property and hires his staff well. They are all true professionals.
The hotel is modern in an understated way the rooms are clean, beds comforatble, the bathroom has all the amenities that you need and expect from top hotels. Complimentary wi-fi, in room safe, coffee and tea, and a well priced mini bar.
We travel alot and have stayed in many hotels worldwide and this is now one of our favourites. When in the Galway area again this is where we will stay.

“Lovely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2010

Stayed here for 3 nights. Our room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the main road. Were woken from 6.30 am with noise of traffic. The was no problem in moving to us a quieter room at the back of the hotel. The room was clean and very comfortable with large bed, air con, fridge, flat screen tv, robes, slippers, safe, fresh ground coffee and coffee maker. The hand written welcome card and chocolates were a nice touch.
All the staff we met were lovely. Food and service at breakfast and dinner was very good. I can also recommend Donnellys bar across the road for a drink and meal.
We will definitely be back to the Twelve.
