Dungarvan....a gem on the south east coast

We go down to Dungarvan several times a year, found it by accident a few years ago and we fell in love with the area, it has everything you could want, great beaches, beautiful mountain areas, lovely forrest walks, great shopping and golf with 3 fantastic 18 hole courses, even the veiws from the town centre are stunning...some great pubs and restaurants..one of the very best resaurants in Ireland is the Tannary..owned by Paul Flynn of the afternoon show fame on rte...some lovely hotels too...but as with all towns ...some not so good as well...Restauants wort a visit are as follows..for day time lunches, snacks etc..nude food on O'Connell street is great as is the euroroute on the kilrush roundabout...whatever you do, avoid the shamrock restauant on o'connell st...just awful..night time you wont beat the tannary , quellys is very good too, as far as hotels go...food is ok in Lawlors in the town centre but not a very nice hotel,,really needs a lot of improving...The Park hotel is superb..2 mins walk from the town centre and a great place to stay..every where you go in the dungarvan area, the sceneary is just amazing...

Hello. You have excellent taste. Dungarvan is a great place to visit, and not only because my wifes cousin Mary lives there. King Johns castle, the County Waterford Museum, the beautiful scenery, the harbor, the very nice town park all make it special. I particularly like the totally non-touristy feel to it. With some of the nicest and friendliest people you will ever meet, it is a wonderful place to relax in and enjoy.

Park hotel superb ?Sorry, can't agree, to my mind it's on the poor side of average.

We stayed there a while back and the lobby was noisy until 5am,we happened to be the room nearest. Staff ignored us and when we went to complain to the manager we were told he was at mass. When we said we'd wait, he miraculously appeared( due to all the prayers he'd said at mass , no doubt)

Bar food is slapped out at lunch time and staff are slow to clear tables or to come ot the table if you look for them.

The Dungarvan area is beautiful and places like the Mahon Falls, Ardmore, The Vee and Stradbally don' get the crowds. Lismore and the cathedral are also under visted.
