Athlone Forum: Getting to Athlone

Probably the handiest route from Dublin airport is by bus. The shuttle bus 747 will bring you into the city centre bus station (Busarus). You can then take bus route number 20 to Athlone. Buses leave every hour and the journey takes two hours, the adult return cost I think is around 17 euros

Some of the private services as well as Bus Eireann transport links directly accessible at Dublin Airport are shown here. Make sure you double check if they go to the town centre in Athlone, if that's what you require :

I agree with Cavan007's option of Bus Eireann from Busarus.

Go out of the Arrivals hall get the Bus to Galway either Bus Eireann (preferably) or City link, Both these services stop in Athlone.

Citylink also go to Athlone from the airport (Its the Galwau bus) - but make sure you get the multistop bus NOT the nonstop / express bus or you will end up in Galway.

Citylink have special 1euro fares if you are lucky enough to get them.
