You could base yourself in Athenry which has a train link (10 mins) and motor way access to Galway and is only about 8 miles away. It's also the right 'side' for Cork. Oranmore is also an option but without the train link to Galway. There is two lovely hotels the Newpark and the Raheen Woods. You could park the car there and use public transport.]
