Cathair a treanntaigh- or Trants fort is beyond Ventry. If you drive through Ventry village, keep on the Slea head drive ,pass Paidí O Sé's pub, the Slea head route turns to the right but if you keep straight on towards the little pier in Cuan, you will pass into the townland.

Harvey,

Is Trant an Irish name? One of my grandmas was a Trant. I thought it was English, but not sure.

I always understood Trant to be an English surname but here's something I saw on the web. Perhaps it is wishful thinking but it is a nice story

The name Trant doesn't sound very 'Irish" because it's originally of Danish origin. Legend has it two brothers from Denmark, John and Phillip Trant were mercenaries (and sons of a Danish chieftain) hired by Strongbow in the 1100's to subdue the Irish rebels in the west. The two brothers liked it in Ireland ...so much they managed to stay on. CahirTrant in Ventry near Dingle is their original homestead.

Trant is definitely Irish,of Danish extraction.I have read information that states the names "Trant" and "Harald" are old Viking/Danish names,Settled on Dingle Peninsula in Kerry in ancient times.I am trying to find lodging called "Trant's Leap",but I find it supposedly located near Tralee. Can you help me find where it is actually located as I wish to spend a night or two there when I visit Ireland next year.My name is "Trant".I also am trying to locate any family I may still have in Dingle area.

According to the info I found it's in Clahane in Ventry.

Cathair a treantaigh doesn't still have a fort as far as I know, only the town land remains.

merlotmo,

All we know is that her grandma married a Flora in Indiana, not where she came from before coming to the U.S.
