Just back from two weeks annual holiday in Dingle. Weather not wonderful but we did manage to swim most days in Wine Stand-to the bemuse/amuse-ment of various fleece clad tourists.
For food Fentons was, as usual; excellent, the mussels are worth the trip alone. Murphy's Ice-cream has combined some flavours that they suggest as pairings, the sea-salt and burnt carmel work really well together.Tigh Bhric's homemade soup and toasties thawed us out a few days after swiming. The little place on the marine "Fish" was as good as last year, likewise the Goat street cafe, which has extra room upstairs this year. Found the new "Diner" expensive and the chips tasteless, but they do a passible takeway pizza.
Craftwise:The Galearai beag(small gallery) on main street has beautiful pendants and bracelets by Ellybell, that I bought for presents, but might not be able to part with them. Ventry Toys have lovely wooden carved St. Brendan the Navigators complete with his boat and other monks, available in the Galearai and also in Penny's Pottery in Ventry itself.
I called to the tiny workshop of pottery Sinead Lough ,where she sits at the wheel and does her thing, while you browse around. Got some lovely "pouring pots" and teapot stands for presents for people getting married.
My mother paid her annual trip (or at this stage, perhaps pilgrimmage )to the Lighthouse B and B and was delighted to meet Mary and Denis again. She says standards are as high as ever there-I called to bring her west one morning and nearly had to drag her away from the breakfast table!!
The Farmer's market has moved to a new venue, in the holy ground and is much better there, i think.I got beautiful west Kerry heather honey, absolutely divine.
Hoping to make it back down for the races, fingers corssed!
