 Budget for meals

Hi, my husband and I are travelling to Cortina this December. We are just wondering how much we should realistically budget for meals? For example, what's the average price for a pizza, sandwich, or pasta in a mid-range restaurant or take-out place? Is there a supermarket in town where we could stock up on fresh fruits, salads, ready-to-eat meals, etc? Since we will spend the Xmas there, will the restaurants be open? Do they charge a premium on this day? Thank you very much for the help!!

Hi!

We were in Cortina few weeks ago.

First there is very good supermarket in center of Cortina.

Secondly, I think meals were quite pricy. We went for pizza 10-14 € but (coperta?) was 6 euros for two persons.

We were there only for 2 nights, but we found only quite expensive restaurants, at least for our budget ;)

Hello Jebby75,

Thank you very much for the information. It is very helpful!

Could you buy hot foods/ready-to-eat meals at the supermarket? Is there any deli shop/bakery in town where you can buy things for picnic? Did you try any of the "Rifugi" in the mountain?

Your help would be much appreciated! Ciao!

Hi!

I don't remember if there was any hot food or meals at super market. We got our picknik things from there, mainly prosecco, water, fruits, cookies and bread, all in very reasonable cost.

We visited 3 rifugis around Cinque Torri area, but didn't sleep at any them. All rifugis had some hot meals to offer, some coffee, beer, drinks etc.

We visited at rif. Nuvolau, breathtaking views and a lot of people who climbed up there (Rif Averau was under construction).

Then we also popped in at rif. Cinque Torri on our way down. It seemed to be more quiet and calmer rifugi with rooms, but owners were very friendly and nice.

We went also to top of the Tofana with cable cars and visited that "rifugi". I think you could buy warm meal there also. It was more like a bar than rifugi.

We enjoyed the views even when you are at the center of the town. I hope this helped you.

Ciao!
