Can you drop Venice, its out of the way, and you don't have enough time.

How about Florence(2) - Stressa (1)- Locarno(1) - Dommodossola (1)- Brig(1) - - Geneva area(2)?

I cannot argue with that.

Then you need to check the time spent on trains, deduct that in order to realize how much time you are left with your destinations. Probably enough to snap a picture of the train station to declare you were there, but unlikely to relax and savor the situation or mood. Also, hostels are usually located away from city centers, incurring extra communication time. Also I don't know if you want to spend time to see Rome. Naples can be reached easily from Rome. 8 days is already tight for Venice - Florence - Rome, and Venice to Geneva is a long stretch that takes a full day, and a couple of connections (meaning possible delays).

If you want to give justice to any of the places you'd like to visit, you'll definitely have to skip some of them.

Assuming you arrive in Rome and depart from Geneva, and given that Venice is a must for you, you should consider skipping Florence and Piedmont.

See Rome, take a high speed train to Venice, stay in Venice, proceed to Lugano, hence to Geneva. And even so, you will be missing a lot of things...

Alternatively, skip Geneva and considering flying back from Milan.

When you say "Piedmonte" do you mean Milan, or do you mean the "real" Piedmonte which is around Torino and south of Aosta? If Milan, it is easy to take a train to Geneva - they run every couple of hours. And also easy to take one to Lugano. If Torino, then the train connections to Geneva are terrible as you will have to go all the way back to Milan and then on to Geneva. There is no train that runs Torino, Aosta, Geneva through what would be the most direct route, the Saint Bernard pass! (they are talking about one, and have been for the last 75 years or so but it will not happen before your trip I am afraid)

In 8 days you could do Florence/Venice/Lugano/Geneva (although Lugano to Geneva is a long way...)

Hi, My opinion is that Venice is a must! As is Florence. But you definitely DO NOT need to see Naples! Perhaps if you had lots of time...but with less time, miss Naples. I too would suggest you fly out of Milan or Torino.
