Help - 2 nights in Murren or Wengen for photography purpose?

Hello - I need your advice. We are going to spend 5 nights in Lauterbrunnen in early June. We thought we would spend 2 nights before that up in a mountain village like Wengen or Murren. Just can't decide which one to pick!!!! After those 2 nights we plan on spending 5 nights in Lauterbrunnen as a base to go to other places. Can you please give me the advantages/disadvantages of WENGEN and MURREN. I love photography and wonder which one is more "photogenic" over the other one! Thanks, travelbugcarrie

I can't see the point of staying in Murren and Wengen as both sit above Lauterbrunnen all be it on opposite sides of the valley and you can easily reach one from another. I would choose one of these then select another destination for your 5 day stay. Wilderswil would be a better place to stay as you could travel up both the valleys which lead into the Bernese Oberland or travel to Interlaken and explore the lake areas on a cloudty day.

Hi travelbugCarrie,

I agree with mostlybytrain above -- all of these villages are too close together to warrant moving bases. You'll lose more time with the move (packing up and checking out, then checking in and unpacking) than you would by making day-trips every day. Travel between them is about 30-40 mintues; they're very close. I would also suggest that you just pick one and stay ther for your seven nights.

I personally never liked Lauterbrunnen because of the cliffs that overhang the town (though lots of folks either don't mind them or think they add to the charm), and I am very partial to the car-free villages. So I would suggest you pick one of them for all of your stay. I like Wengen of the two (haven't yet stayed in Mürren though) because it's larger and has more hotel and restaurant choices.

Have fun!
