 Need nice hotel

We will be in Lake Lugano for 3 days in April and are looking so forward to our trip. It looks so beautiful.

Please can you help us with a hotel that is well situated. Is it better to stay on the lake or in town? Are they within walking distance of each other. (We will have a car, but would probably prefer to just park it, if that is possible)

We would like a nice hotel and don't mind spending up to $300/night. We don't want an old hotel.

Also, where could we park the car for the 3 days?

Thanks so much - can't wait to get some help with planning our stay.

Take a look at the 4 star Parco Paradiso Suitenhotel. Although it is not in the centre of the city it is modern, has wondeful views, and its own car park. It is possible to walk into the centre along the lakeside or catch a bus which passes regularly along the nearby Via Carona which can be accessed from steps leading down from the hotel.

Paradiso has its own train and boat station so it is not always necessary to go into the centre if you wish to take excursions not using your car.

You can get train times at www.sbb.ch and boat times at lakelugano.ch/en/…timetable_summer_2010.aspx

Thanks so much - the hotel looks really lovely. How long would it take to walk into the centre of the city?

How does this hotel compare to Lugano Dante Center Swiss Quality Hotel - the hotel and the locations?

Parco's website under 'Contact' says 15 minutes. I would put it nearer 20. Its a leisurely stroll with plenty of places to stop and sit to admire the view or have an ice cream - so who's counting?

The Hotel Lugano Dante is right in the centre just back from the lake and close to the shops and restaurants. I cannot say how it compares as I have never been inside. It does not have any views although it does have a sofisticated underground parking system - at 30 CHF a day!!

Thanks for the info .... Hotel Parco Paradiso does indeed seem like the better choice.

One more question though - do you know anything about the De La Paix?

Sorry I cannot help further regarding the Hotel De La Paix.

Perhaps the hotel reviews on this site may help you decide.

If it is not over Easter, which could be more expensive than rest of April.

Hotel splendide Royal.

5 star, leading hotel of the world collection, rated number 2 in tripadvisor of all hotels in lugano. Top notch Hotel, great location on Lakefront, food gorgeous, parking in Hotel, short stroll to Hotel,

I found previously that I got best Rate by calling hotel directly.

Got Lakeview room and breakfast in the Rate.

It is about 4 years ago, so hope it is not gone more expensive, Try !!!!

Hi everyone,

Not sure if anyone is watching this thread anymore since it's been a month or so. But, my husband and I are traveling from Switzerland to Northern Italy. We're going from Luzern to Lugano in one day via boat/train. Given the long day of travel, we plan to spend one night in Lugano before going on to Lake Como. We will NOT have a car. I am very interested in the lovely hotels you list here, but any comments on convenience from the train station??

Like I said, we are on foot with backpacks. Are there buses or taxis? Are any of these hotels actually walking distance?

Thank you in advance for your help. :))

What is you budget and what facilities are you looking for?

If you use the link below and click on 'Gastronomy' and then 'Hotel' you will be able to see those around the main station area. Bear in mind that the station is high up above the town so you will need to use the funicular down from the station to treach most of them. Some of the more expensive hotels will collect you from and return you the station. The nearest on station level would be the

Actually, you just answered my question with mention of the funicular. I think we'd rather stay away from the station where the nicer hotels are, but I was just trying to figure out logistics FROM the train station TO the hotel. If there's a funicular, or even hotel transport (depending on the hotel), we should be fine. Thank you!!
