 Dinner in Lugano

Hi. We will be staying in Lugano for one night in August, en route to Italy, staying at the Lugano Savosa Hostel.

How easy is to get into Lugano itself from the hostel (we will have a car)? Also can you recomend a restaurant for dinner - we have 3 kids (14, 11 and 9) so somewhere not too expensive, and family friendly.

Many thanks.

Maybe someone can recomend you a specific restaurant. Best is to leave the car in the hostel an take the bus (runs every 12 minutes) to the city center. Parking space in the center is very expensive The center is full of all kinds of restaurants and a great evening visit.

You can get bus times at www.sbb.ch. Just enter Savosa, Posta and Lugano, Stazione Nord. The journey takes 7 minutes. The bus terminates at Lugano, Autosilo Balestra but this is not quite so convenient for the city centre. You can catch the funicular down to the centre from the station. However as the last bus leaves Lugano, Stazione Nord at 1909 you will either have to walk back or use your car!

As mube says there are plenty of restaurants in the centre. Just walk round, take a look at the menus and make a choice. You will be able to sit outside many of them in August. If you use the following link you will see just how many there are! Just zoom in to get a better idea. There is a small car park in front of Ristorante Mary (just below the red ring when you zoom right in).

If you are looking to eat on a budget then try the restaurant in the Manor Store, which is open until 2200 every evening.

Good morning, Red101 -

We were in Lugano for one night last July - with children ages 10 and 11. We ate downtown at the Pizzeria Tango. The kids loved the pizza....and the salads were quite good as well. We had a carafe of their house wine to go with it.

Happy Travels!
