Lugano Forum: Lugano to Locarno bus or Train?

There are no parallel bus and train lines in Switzerlan. If you have a train connection between two places then there won't be a bus connection.

Bear in mind that the bus only goes as far as Via Campo Marzio in Cassarate in Lugano. You then have to get to Lugano Train station which is about a kilometre away.

Below is a link to a map. Via Campo Marzio is on the right and the train station on the left. It is possible to catch a city bus into the centre if you decide not to walk. If you click on 'Traffic' you will see from where these run. You will need change for the ticket which must be bought from a machine at the stop before you board. When you get to the centre you take the funicular up to the station. You will need more change for this.

Do you mean Varenna on Lake Como and Stresa on Lake Maggiore?!

That would be quite difficult .-)

But there is another alternative:

Hydrofoil boat from Varenna to Como and then train to Locarno (again change of trains in Giubiasco or Bellinzona). But also in Como there is quite a distance between the ferry pier and the train station - you better take a taxi if you are travelling with luggage.
