Left luggage for two weeks in Dublin airport

Hi guys!

I will be leaving from Dublin airport to travel around Europe for about two weeks before I return to Dublin, and wanted to leave my small carry-on roller suitcase at the Greencaps left luggage facility in Dublin airport. I was thinking of putting my laptop in that luggage as well, but read on another forum post that the facility isn't where you can put your luggage in a locker, and that there is a lot of foot traffic around there and the luggage isn't really monitored.

Thus, would you recommend I leave it at the airport, and if so how much would it be? Dublin airport's website does not have specifics, and I do not have a phone while I'm in Ireland. If you think I should not leave my luggage there, should I just FedEx my stuff home to the States or is there a long-term storage facility in Dublin?

Thank you, and sorry for the long post!

Try emailing on this link it might even work out cheaper than Airport baggage store.

Your description of the left luggage facility makes it sound like left luggage is just piled up unattended in the middle of the floor in the middle of the airport! The left luggage facility is on the ground floor of the short term car park atrium. The short term car park is just across from the terminal building and the left luggage facility is on the left, just pass the lifts/elevators. It's about a minute's walk from the terminal. It's a secure room with a staffed counter which is securely locked up when not staffed. Items stored in the facility are indeed monitored and can't be accessed by passers by. We've never had cause to use it ourselves as we live close to DUB but we would have no problems either using if we needed to or recommending it to others.

You really need to get in touch with the left luggage facility directly yourself to check out their charges as it you will probably need to given them a description of what you plan to leave there to get a price from them. You can also ask them about security. If you are in Ireland at present and don't have a phone, why don't you use a public phone or a phone at your accommodation? You can also make Skype calls from Internet cafes

The Store It facility recommended in the previous post is a long way from DUB and not that easy to get to by public transport. Dublin Airport is in the northern suburbs, while that facility is in the western suburbs, about 18km away. If you want to check out similar facilities, this one is much closer to DUB (about 10 minutes' drive).

This thread has some information on left luggage facilities in Dublin city centre.

Other than Busaras, the bus station, where the left luggage facility is likely to be very secure, we'd take our chances with the airport facility if the price is right. You might also want to factor in the added convenience of leaving your stuff at the airport rather than in the city centre or elsewhere.

Thanks to both Tapl and tony2phones! That's why I figured I'd ask on the forums...needed more info!

Tapl, thanks for the clarification and the recommendations; I think I can use the phone in the office around here, so I will give them a call. And you're certainly right about the airport convenience factoring in!

Thanks again, everyone!

Hi there: I'll be doing the same thing in a couple of weeks. Did you get an answer from the Greencaps (left luggage) folks as to what the charges are: daily/weekly/per bag?

Thanks, Leslie

Just note that Greencaps closes up at night, in case you will need your gear for an early flight. I think they shut 2300 - 0600 may be later.

Hi Leslie--

I wound up leaving my carry-on roller bag there for a grand total of appx 14 days. It was a standard 21''x14''x9'' bag, and it cost me about 90-odd Euro, which wound up being appx. 6.5 Euro per day.

Greencaps charges a) by the piece of luggage and b) by size (and perhaps weight--afraid I can't remember exactly). I must say though, the convenience of having it at the airport is great, and not having to haul my bag all around Europe was a godsend, especially if you plan to use the smaller airlines like Ryanair (they are indeed SUPER strict about carry-ons--very literally only 1 per person. My 6'' Sak purse had to be shoved into my backpack!) or Easyjet (they seem slightly more lax).

My luggage was perfectly fine when I retrieved it, btw. The Greencaps stand itself sort of resembles a New York newspaper stand (it's small!) and is very unobtrusively tucked away in the car rental area. There is a counter which has a door on it, and they brought my luggage back into a larger room (out of immediate sight) that had shelves on it. I assume this larger area is what gets locked up at night.

If you decide to leave your luggage, just be sure to retain the ticket they give you, and tuck it somewhere safe, since that's also your claim ticket.
