 Malin Head

Hi All, We're staying at Malin Head in Donegal in Self catering accommodation for 10 days in August. Can any one give me details of the local bus service please? Also we'd like to take a trip into Derry im assuming that the local bus goes from Malin or carrndonogh to Derry? Does any one know of a tour company that goes from Derry to the Giants Causeway (have found trips from Belfast) ? Im the only driver on the trip and i'd like to have a day or 2 off from driving so therefore the reason why im enquirigng about bus's or tours :) We've planned to do some walking, visit the beach's and local restaurants in Malin, also giong to take in Glenveagh national Park and Donegal town. Can any one recommend any where else to see or recommended things to do? Tanx to all. :)

There are details of bus services here:

http://www.foylecoaches.com/service.htm

I've not been able to find a bus trip from Derry to Giant's Causeway either. You could try contacting Tourist Information in Derry and asking them. There is a contact form here:

If you are interested in ancient remains, Inishowen is stuffed full of them. There is lots of information on this website:

http://www.inishowenheritage.ie/

If you are heading towards Derry do try and find Grianan Ailigh - a magnificent stone fort with an amazing view

Have you found the general website for Inishowen?

If you have chance do try and get to Slieve League cliffs. They are magnificent - much better than cliffs of Moher. You might be interested in this thread which has information about them and other places of interest.

for County Donegal, Dublin

If you are going to Giant's Causeway, I'd take the car. You could travel via the Lough Foyle ferry which would cut down on travel time considerably from Malin. See www.loughfoyleferry.com.

You would also need the car to visit Glenveagh - though your journey time from Malin to Glenveagh would be reduced considerably by using the Foyle ferry's sister service on Lough Swilly between Buncrana and Rathmullan.

For car free days, use the bus service to Derry as already suggested. Lough Swilly buses also run services in inishowen, though your nearest stop might be in Carndonagh. See www.loughswillybusco.com/timetables for details.

As you will see, bus services in Donegal are very limited, so you are really dependent on the car to get around. As already mentioned by EESW, the sea cliffs at Slieve League are also well worth visiting. However, if you're not keen on driving, note that Malin to Donegal Town is about 70 miles and Malin to Slieve League is about 100 miles - Donegal is a big county!
