Hi guys

The Turkish restaurant is now open. I'm going for lunch in an hour so i'll report back.

Got a menu - they are open 7 days 12 til10.

I must say that the menu doesn't look very exciting but i hope they prove me wrong.... fingers crossed...

The Ayr BBQ Turkish Restaurant opened yesterday evening, 28th July, and is now open for lunch and dinner every day, 11am - 12 midnight, and for take away.

Situated next to Weatherspoons, on the Sandgate, the front of the restaurant is a plain white at the moment. That should improve next week when the main shop-sign arrives.

We had lunch there. We shared the cold mixed meze (or messe) for starters. The dish was very well presented and came with Turkish flat bread (like Arabic pita bread). Both were delicious and the bread was very fresh and had just a bit of crunch at the edges (unlike pita bread).

For a main course we sampled the grill, which we also shared. The meat, lamb and chicken, was tender and served with rice and vegetables.

Finally, we tried the traditional style rice pudding. By that time we were almost too full to move but we bravely finished with a clean plate.

This restaurant is a welcome addition to Ayr's improving multi-cultural eating scene. Meat eaters will relish it. They also have fish dishes, pizza and vegetarian options and a bar, so something for everyone. Note that even sharing these dishes - which allowed us to taste almost everything on offer - we came close to bursting point!

They currently offer a four course special which could be enough to feed an army. We paid £28 for our meal, with non-alcoholic drinks. Not cheap for lunch but reasonable for dinner.

The interior is simple and neat, with easy clean tables, no tablecloths and comfortable seats.

Verdict: Thumbs up. We will be hearing a lot more about this place. We will return (but we could never eat like that every day!).

Sandlab - I was reading your post thinking my God was I at the same table??? As we went tonight and had exactly the same as yourself!!

I totally agree with everything you say and have no complaints at all about what we received and the service that we experienced.

So for my review please read the previous posters!!! hehehehehehehe

I will have no hesitation in returning to the restaurant!!

Well Megron, I guess great minds think, and eat, alike?

I was going to mention in my post that on the way home we passed a new restaurant in Newmarket Street, The Dorris, and another, The Firehouse, at the corner of Smith St and Kyle St. The latter has already been mentioned in these parts but it certainly seems to have some reasonably priced lunch options. We intend to pop along soon to sample both.

Wow this sounds like good news indeed. You very nearly had an Ayr forum gathering on your hands! If anyone feels inclined to request this restaurant is listed on Tripadvisor for the purposes of a review, please add something in the little box at the end of the request along the lines of, this is Ayr as in the United Kingdom, not Ayr as in Nebraska USA, or Ayr as in Australia, lol.

I discovered a shedload of Ayr restaurants listed in Nebraska the other day, well 7 anyway. They had the correct addresses and postcodes, but wrong continent. The new Firehouse is there along with a few other old familiars.

I guess I'm gonna have to try some Turkish food then. That'll be a first. Thanks for noting the availability of veggie food there Sandlab. Much appreciated!
