 ye olde kings head

Hi! could any chester local give me any info regarding the above hotel. My girlfriend and i are considering staying here for a weekend and have read some mixed reviews. I know it is under new management and rooms may be undergoing refurbishment. but the fact that it is 400 years old, has great character and is said to be haunted apeals to me. All that is needed is a clean comfortable bed and clean bathroom. I do want our first visit to Chester to be a memorable one. And hope to give it a grate review.

I have to admit that I don't think I have ever been in it. It's in a good position though in Lower Bridge Street and close to most things.

The Coach house in Town Hall Square has had some very good reviews, but it has been completely refurbished in recent years.

Had a look while passing yesterday, the curtains in the upstairs windows looked a bit grubby to me...

Thanks PennyW maybe the curtains are 400 years old as well. .ha ha ha ha ha ha. Anyway we are really looking foward to our visit this weekend on our fourth aniversary, been told if you like York, you,ll love Chester. So I been a lover of history and old buildings have booked a room with four poster bed for two nights for £80.00 including breakfast. It sounds to good to be true. I dont mind old but it better be clean. Ha ha. Bye! bye!

Have a great time, you are very handy for everywhere there, and with a four poster who cares about curtains?!

You will see lots and lots of rhinos all over Chester (painted ones, not real ones!) There's currently a rhino trail taking place all over the city and it's great fun as it takes you around many of the city's historical sights. You can pick up a map of the trail from the Tourist Info Centre on Northgate Street (by the Town Hall).

Hope you have a wonderful trip.

7. Re: ye olde kings head

Is the hotel still open because i have emailed them re a meal in the resturant & had no reply even when re-sent. I was only making an enquiry for New Years Eve if they are open then as going to be in Chester then. Having been & stayed at the hotel before i know its nice so i thought i'd get in early to see if they did reservations on New Years Eve. BUT no reply????

I have also emailed the Ghost Walk company re Ghost walks as there is no contact number its an email contact address & again no reply. Whats wrong with Chester dont they have internet connection no more???

Any advice will be helpfull?

I suggest contacting the Tourist Information Centre in Chester on 0845 647 7868. I booked through there when I went on the Ghost Tour.

I think there may be two types of ghost tours in Chester. This is the one I went on, and my tour guide was the man 2nd from left on the photo:

Also found this page saying that the guest accomodation at Ye Old Kings Head is currently closed:

Chester is definitely not closed though! Please don't be put off - you will have a fantastic time. There is no shortage of wonderful things to see, do and eat!
