thanks did she saying anything about the water I also read people got the runs I thought the water was purified.

If you are unsure in anyway or have doubts, stick to the bottled water for drinking and rinsing your tooth brush. Also don't drink too many pina colodas as coconut is a natural laxitive.

My cousin, her fiance & daughter visited the Bahia Principe and she said her fiance & daughter got bit to death by sand fleas, yet she didn't get bit or bothered by them at all.

I don't think it's safe to say whether they are as bad as people say or not, because everyone seems to have different experiences with the sandfleas.

However, you can’t stop going to a beach because of the fear of sand fleas -- you can get rid of fleas by using insect repellent. The treatment for sand flea bites is some what similar to that of mosquitoes. Precautions like wearing sandals while walking on the beach can save you from flea bites.

So take precautions and have a nice time on the beach.

thanks again people it's really nice to see that some folks really care. we usually go to st. martin's but this year the flights from Ottawa are next to none there all flying out of Toronto and to get back to Ottawa from Toronto is a 5-6 hour wait this wouldn't be so bad if it was during the day but in the middle of the night wow.

always wanted to go to the DR flying time is great and this year we're taking the plunge.

we were there a couple of years ago and didn't have a major problem with the sand fleas other than at dusk or right after a rain...just stay off the beach at those times and you should be okay...one word of caution though, it does seem to have turned into a spring breakers hot spot so you may want to avoid that time frame if you are looking for peace and quiet...

My husband and I have been there twice.(We are 59 and 60) He was bitten both times and I never had a problem. We were there in Nov and a doctor from Canada we met said everyone gets bitten it is just that some react and others dont. My husband got bit the first day on the beach even in the daylite. He moved to the pool area but although it wasnt as bad they were still there too. Take bug stuff(his was old) and I am sure you will be fine. We love this place so much he said he would still go back even with the bites. One of my friends is going MArch 8th.As far as I know they have banned large groups after last years mess, so I wouldnt worry. It was pretty bad and they tramnfered people to the Bahia Princ Samana where we were. The kids were pretty bad.

I haven't checked personally, but I did hear they have started a group on facebook and from the sounds of things they are headed back to the BPRSJ...not sure on dates though...

I can not believ that after all the troble they had last year...That is a bad move on their part.. You would think they learned their lesson. It was Mid March when the Gr 12 kids in Ont had their break...

I was there last April and I didn`t see a sand flea or a mosquito. I live in NS and can`t go out in the spring and summer because if there`s a biting insect around it will find me!!!I always get eaten alive and have even had to go to the doctor for a welt that had swollen up the entire back of my leg!While at BPRJ last year I didn`t get a single bite...
