Gatwick to Heathrow

i booked flights Belfast to sydney on jan 4th 2016.

I never noticed that I fly from Belfast to gatwick but then have to get to Heathrow for my connecting flight. I have 3hrs and 10 mins between flights to pick up my luggage, make it from gatwick to Heathrow and re check in.

Is this do-able??

Any advise would be great

Thanks

The minimum connection time is 3 hours. If your incoming flight is on time you should be okay. You'll need to get the bus between airports which takes about an hour.

Hi

Change your flights from Belfast to Heathrow, I honestly would worry about this connection. I sat on the M25 three Saturdays ago for over two hours and it wasn't even rush hour.

Did you book this journey with one through ticket directly from the airline? If you did then contact them about your problem and they will hopefully solve it for you.

Booked on two tickets, say Easyjet to Gatwick and then on with maybe Qantas or BA from Heathrow, the forget about the first flight and rebook yourself on an earlier flight. Note this is only a solution if there are two separate bookings.

Booked through an online travel agent, then it's time to get on your knees and pray to St Jude.

Hi Jackie

Thanks for this.

I booked everything via byojet. My flight from Syd to Bel is fine, just the one coming back is the issue.

They are quoting me $200 per person to change the flights. I have asked for the earlier flight from Belfast to Gatwick which will give me lots of time to get to Heathrow but they still want paid. No good will be shown at all.

I know it was my responsibility when I booked the flights, but I didn't think to check.

Any suggestions??

Just to add, I wholeheartedly agree with Jackie about trying to get this itinerary changed as it's a pretty terrible connection. Keep in mind that the bus between airports is £25 each way so you can subtract that from whatever a change will cost you.

Ah never thought of that, thanks lex.

Any suggestions on how I should approach byojet? They are saying the $200 fee is standard with Singapore airlines.

What do you mean how to approach them? Not much you can do but agree to pay the charge, the agent isn't going to pay out of their pocket. Definitely get the connection through LHR if at all possible rather than a longer connection between airports.

I don't see how asking to get placed on an earlier flight that day means they can charge $200/£100 per person.

As I have to re check in at Heathrow, could I book my own flight (a cheaper option) and just re check in? Or to get on my Heathrow flight do I have to get on the original in Belfast? (Hope this makes sense)

I'd change the flights. Odds of you making it must be one in ten.

"I don't see how asking to get placed on an earlier flight that day means they can charge $200/£100 per person."

It's a flight change and unless you have a flexible ticket they cost money. The agent isn't charging you by the sound of it, merely passing on a charge imposed by the airline.

You can't book your own flight to LHR, if you miss the flight to LGW your flight to Sydney will be cancelled.

It took us over 2 hours to get from LGW to LHR last Sunday (early afternoon) and in the end we had to get off the motorway and take some back roads. Traffic was horrendous and although there were no accidents, the sheer volume had us crawling along at around 10 to 20 mph for miles at a time! If there had been an accident, I hate to think how long it would have taken us! We only live 60 miles from LGW but if we have a morning flight from there, we drive down the night before and stay in a hotel so we don't risk getting stuck on the M25/M23.
