The BBC will be airing a six part documentary series on "Bangkok Airport" (Suvarnabhumi) starting this Thursday (22 Jan) on BBC Three. The trailer looks, em, interesting. And per the article below, the series was filmed last year slap bang in the middle of last year's anti-government protests and the "shutdown". For those in the UK - or who have a UK VPN - it could be interesting viewing.

I saw the trailer yesterday on the BBC iPlayer, and a hat tip to Richard Barrow for more details - http://www.richardbarrow.com/2015/01/bangkok-airport-is-on-bbc-three-on-22-january/

USBT,

According to the BBC Web site, it says that the first episode will be available, shortly after it airs. That hints that it might be available on the Web, though there were no details.

I did not find this documentary on BBC-America, but will keep looking. Otherwise, and if it's not available on the Web, I'll hope that they are doing reruns in the UK at the end of April. Sounds interesting, and worth a watch.

Thanks,

Hunt

=======

Each episode will be posted on the BBC iPlayer, a website that replays all (well most) TV programs for up to 30 days after they air. BUT, the iPlayer is only available to people in the UK (unfortunately they haven't got around to subscription for overseas viewers, which would be a win-win). You can get a VPN which gives you an IP address in the UK and allows you to watch programs remotely - I have one for about $15/month, and I download programs to my iPad (iPlayer app) to watch when flying. Otherwise you'll have to hope that BBC America shows it, or that the episodes get posted to YouTube, or rely on running commentaries from yours truly.

I've used BKK many many times with no issues whatsoever, so I'm intrigued as to what problems people come across and whose fault they are - and I think I can guess that last bit. :-)

There is an app which is certainly available on android phones and tablets called UK4G-UKTV which gives live coverage world wide of British TV including bbc3.

Might be available on apple too.

Surely there has to be licencing issues there? (Which is why iplayer is not availbale officially outside of the UK). I would have thought the powers that be would have moved to shut this down?

They do have a subscription iplayer actually although only works in Europe and Canada (not US) so it's a bit cheeky to call it "Worldwide"

Knowing Suvarnabhumi pretty well ... and almost how to pronounce it ... this should be interesting viewing. Thanks for the tip.

If a fat man walks through the security screen at an airport sideways, you can be reasonably certain he is going to Bangkok!

Sorry, couldn't resist!
