What are forum guidelines?Malindo Airlines is the worst airlines I have travelled in so far. I booked 4 tickets for my family in Aug 2014 for a Oct/Nov. travel to Bali from Mumbai. The allowed luggage was 20 Kgs per person at the time of booking. On the return leg of Journey on Nov 2, 2014 the lady at the check-in counter desk checked-in 4 bags weighing 60 Kgs in total and she suddenly said that you have exhausted your allowed limit of 60 Kgs !!!!.
I was carrying total 6 bags weighing 80 Kgs. I informed her that my allowed baggage is 80 Kgs. Then She informed me that the company changed its baggage policy on Oct 11, 2014 and now only 15 Kgs/person is allowed as against 20 Kgs.
I requested her to consider my case as I was travelling with family and did not want any hassles.
I also told her that you have changed the policy without any information to us and you should not apply the rules for the tickets booked prior to the policy change. But the lady was adamant and did not consider my case.
I explained her that the remaining two bags contained costly perfumes and lots of other items which were not allowed in hand baggage so requested her to call back one of the bag so that I can put those items in that bag and carry some items as hand baggage. But she refused to do it.
Even I was ready to pay for the excess baggage but they did not allow.
I had to throw costly perfumes and some items which were not allowed in Security check.
I lodged a strong complaint with my travel agent about this.
After few days I got a call from CEO of Malindo Airlines . Since the beginning of the conversation the lady CEO was very aggressive and rude. She simply shrugged off her responsibility and was telling me Customs rule which are not in her purview.
I am utterly disappointed with this Malindo Airlines for the handling of this issue and arrogant behavior of the their CEO.
I urge people not to travel by Malindo Airlines.
This does not seem to add up to me on the information provided.
First 15kgs is he limit on domestic flights only according to their baggage information, not sure why that applies to a flight Mumbai Bali. Geography is not my strong point so happy to be corrected
Even if classed as domestic all flight categories identify excess baggage charges that would apply in your situation. I don't recall any experience where I have not seen an airline willing to take more money for bags so for them to refuse your payment is most unusual.
Edited: 9 years agoHello Derek L,
My flight was from Mumbai (India) to Denpasar, Bali (Indonesia) which is an international flight.
After checking-in 4 bags the lady at the check-in counter told me that the system won't allow excess baggage as your check-in process was completed.
Yes, indeed it was most unusual to refuse payment for excess baggage. I think she was not trained well as it is a start-up airline.
That does seem odd. Checked baggage limits (as opposed to carry on) are set at the time of ticketing. Even if the checked bag rules change, pax who have already purchased tickets get the previous allowance.
If Vikram purchased tickets when the allowance was 20kg pp, that should have been honored. If that didn't happen then the airline may have dropped the ball.
However, the comment that he received a personal call from the airline's CEO, in respect of a baggage discrepancy, and that the CEO was "aggressive and rude" is equally odd in the other direction. CEOs don't personally call pax over a baggage discrepancy, and I highly doubt they're rude whenever they speak to customers (not even Irish Mike). Are you sure this was the "CEO", as I highly doubt that would have happened?
