We were in a small room with 3 tables—one occupied by a party of Dutch school teachers who were thoroughly enjoying themselves and the other by a quiet couple from Atlanta who later came over to chat. The hosts were equally attentive to all, in multiple languages. We started by sharing a flight of 5 Italian wines—all of which were new to us—with an accompanying "Tagliere dell'amicizia", a salumi and formaggi platter, that was plenty for two, and then moved on to glasses of our favorite wines from the initial tasting.
