"Friendly place. Great food. The service was amazing. We got appetizers as we entered, to cater to our hunger even before we ordered something. YAFA pasta and veggie wrap were really good! Later, the owners played a song to which they brought almost everyone to the dance floor. Felt like one of those..." classic movie moments. In the end, they served us free dessert also which was really good.

"Stopping by during a stroll in Carmel, we went in to enjoy the restaurant's wine bar, but it was closed for a photo shoot that day. However the imaginative French menu attracted us so much we made a reservation and came back for dinner later. Good choice.
The service was attentive, décor attracti..."ve, and food excellent; the wine list very extensive, and the sommelier helpful. I had a very large endive/gold-and-red beet salad that was almost a meal in itself; my husband had a smoked salmon something. I had the halibut with red-and-yellow pepper coulis (divine) for entrée, while he had something not often on the menu anymore: veal chop. This one was huge - 16 ounces - served with mushrooms. He ate the whole thing.
Dessert - a sorbet trio and a gateau - were excellent.
If you like serious, excellent but not stuffy dining, this is a good place.

Diners were pulling out their phones to snap photos of the presentations. Many of the plates are hand-thrown pottery, and food is served imaginatively on those dishes and on slate plates; twigs and pebbles add to the Japanese elan. As an idea of the menu: a crisp of black squid ink with Serrano ham; raw-milk custard with salmon roe (appetizers); Dungeness crab with sea lettuce; poached Maine lobster with milk skin, pureed fresh green peas; kampachi (fish) with smoked steelhead roe, baby baby carrots, and sauce of dates and vanilla; granache with green tea ice cream and che...
