After wondering around the town for 15 minutes trying to find a nice place to eat we stumbled upon powerhouse cafe. Wow! Absolutely stunning! They set a table for 6 of us even though they were short staffed, then went out of their way to give us a complimentary starter for the wait which was so generous and bursting with... More

Best gluten free cafe I've ever been to! Most of the menu is gluten free. My husband had the best gf beef burger I've ever seen. Our only regret was not finding it earlier although we did go back in our way home to buy baking for the trip home. Worth coming back to hanmer just for this cafe!

Coffee is absolutely superb, food is fresh and tasty. Food includes eggs galore - eggs benedict (our favourite), eggs montreal and eggs florentine. large cabinet full of enticing goodies - several friandes, scones and a wicked ginger crunch! Friendly service, great supply of current magazines. Whenever we go to Hanmer this is where we go for breakfast (and often lunch... More

We ate here over Easter 2013 and had a super meal. Our scottish waitress even produced reading book lists for our kids - she'd been a Borders children's book specialist in a previous life! The food was divine, not cheap, but superbly cooked and presented. Thoroughly recommend it. We were lucky that it was very quiet the night we were... More

Spent two weeks in New Zealand, only one day and night in Hanmer Springs but the Powerhouse was my favorite breakfast of the trip. Best flat white and fruit, yogurt, & muesli. I would recommend it!

Popped in for lunch with our 2 small children, wow what a find. Busy but humming, service was super fast, coffees came out promptly and kids power pack lunch was a total hit! Frittata and side salads from cabinet were delicious, and Caesar salad did not disappoint - huge serving ! Staff were lovely and although busy were all smiling.... More

We seemed to come here every day during our stay in Hanmer. The cafe was extremely busy during the easter period but the staff were friendly, unhurried, good choice of fresh food and great coffee. See you next time!

Bad coffee, meals arrived half an hour after each other, vege burger came out as beef, mouldy garlic bread, rice microwaved to a crisp and frozen middle of the vege patty. Staff were nice though and it could have been due to the Easter rush. Promising menu with plenty of gluten free and vegetarian options.

The food was of poor quality at the price of $35.00 per main dinner meal. The chicken entree in rice paper rolls was brown chicken meat loosely rolled in rice paper with a browny green dipping sauce of little taste. The scallop and prawns smelt strongly of fish, ie not fresh, when served. The salad served with it had slimey... More

if you're tired of the standard breakfast like Eggs on toast, you might want to give this place a shot. Great and Creative Breakfast menu. I had Mexican breakfast and my husband had French toast w fresh fruits and vanilla syrup. The breakfast were delectable. Being a coffee snob, the coffees we had were strong and well-balanced with milk. We... More
