Description: TOPES restaurant is a modern British restaurant centrally located in Rochester High Street in Kent and has been awarded two AA rosettes. Chris Small, head chef and co-owner, has created several different menus, including a special set price lunch (L15 for 2 courses and coffee) and mid-week evening menu (3 courses for L20.50). In addition, there is an a la carte menu for Friday and Sunday evenings and traditional roasts on Sunday. All ingredients are bought in fresh on a daily basis from local suppliers and the menus reflect seasonal produce. The restaurant is set in a 15th, 16th and 17th Century building and many of the original features remain. However, the restaurant has a modern feel to it to reflect the modern style of dishes on offer.

I'd read the reviews on here, but only recall Topes as a Burger joint when I was a kid. From greeting to exit, the service and food were way above anything I've experienced in the Area EVER ! Friendly, smiley staff that look like there pleased to be there....Food was excellent. Portion sizes were bang on, not too big but... More

We went to Topes on a Saturday night for an early dinner, around 7:15. Everything started great. The waiting staff were attentive and pleasant. The restaurant was empty apart from one table of four. The menu was the main thing that attracted us to this restaurant. They have a weekend dinner menu which is £22 for two courses, and £32... More

Visited during the Dickens Festival and we were lucky enough to get a table, we were upstairs as the Piper and band came past, giving us a great view as they went past. Now to the food, it was very tasty, the mussels were the best I've had in this Country. One of us had a Tortellini filled with blue... More

Topes is a fantastic little restaurant in the heart of historic Rochester, and it's dark beams and exposed brickwork create a quaint, cosy and intimate atmosphere - perfectly fitting with the rest of the odd, quirky little town. I had the fortune of growing up in Rochester, so I know it well, but I have only eaten at Topes twice... More

We had a wonderderful birthday evening meal at Topes. The service was excellent and the food wonderful. Great place to enjoy a romantic meal by candle light and also a special celebration as the staff make you feel very welcome. The food choices were very good, especially enjoyed the 'ham, egg and chips' starter!!

We have just had a lovely lunch at Topes and as always the service and the food was delighful. To be able to visit a restaurant again and again and have food of the same high quality is wonderful, we always pick it when we are thinking of celebrating special occasions. Keep up the good work.

My husband and I had lunch here last week on a visit to Rochester. After reading glowing reviews expected much better. When food arrived it looked beautiful on the plate, but we both agreed that taste was lacking. My bread and butter pudding, however was delicious. Thought it overpriced.

The Aim was to have a very relaxing decent quality meal at a reasonable price whilst we spent the evening talking. The evening managed to achieve all three objectives. The staff were very welcoming, explained the couple of questions around the menu and were knowledgeable about the wine list, a good start that they maintained all evening getting the balance... More
