Cindy, at the front desk of our condo, recommended Franklin Spa. Funny name but what a great little diner. We walked there from our place and got a table right away. It looks as though a lot of locals go there as the waitresses and cooks seemed to know most people by name as they came in. It is a... More

Pleasant break from the "fancier" Newport restaurants. Just an no-frills open room with a diner feel. Grill is open so you can see everything getting prepared. Menu was extensive, food was great and reasonably priced.

I was in Newport for a 3-day conference. Being bored of the catered food during the conference, we ventured to Franklin Spa under Hotel Viking's staffs' recommendations. It was the best breakfast since we've arrived in Newport, and service was fast. Good for us since we were rushing to head back for the conference.

Tucked into a nice little corner of Newport and surrounded by nice cottages & beautiful churches. Had a man breakfast of steak and fries while my female colleagues had fancy stuff. I was too busy drinking black coffee, which the waitress generously and diligently topped up when it ran low. The steak was a generous sirloin cut and was served... More

We were in Newport for business on 3/14/13 , stayed over at the Marriott(nice place w/ pool and gym) ,paid $113.00 for off-season room, great deal. My wife's co-worker lives in Wakefield, RI and we asked her for a good Newport breakfast spot while we were having after work drinks at the "Black Pearl" (good clam chowder there) and she... More

There weren't a lot of options, since it's New Year's Day. Nothing was bad, but everything was really just adequate. Luckily we walked in at the perfect time and didn't have a long wait like many others. I had the eggs Benedict. Eggs were overlooked, as was the English muffin.

This is a great local joint for a quick breakfast if you're not looking to spend $50 for two before noon. This is by no means a fancy place, but that's what gives it charm. Big portions and reasonable prices. Use a restroom before you get here though. The ladies/gents single restroom is a little scary!

I wish I had more time in Newport. There were so many amazing choices on the menu, that I would have loved to try them all. The banana pecan french toast was amazing. My daughter had the bisquits and gravy, she could not eat them quick enough.

Located off the main strip of shops, this little diner is a gem. Breakfast is delicious and the place fills up with locals quick so get there early. If you are looking for a place where the tourists may not venture, check out Franklin Spa. No bells and whistles here, just a friendly staff, good coffee and great food.

OK, with a limited number of days and meals while visiting a great place like Newport, you want to make the most of them, right? So we usually ask around and see which places are mentioned most by the locals - shopkeepers, hotel personnel, tour crew, etc. Franklin Spa was one and what fun it was to enjoy such a... More
