The centre has a unique gift shop set into the lava and you feel like you are walking in a canyon. The food is pricey but delicious. The lunch buffet was reasonable, lots of good and fresh food. The homemade bread was so good you had to be careful you didn't fill up on that alone.

We wouldn't have visited except we were in the area - pleasant time filler, very informative - we liked the audio guides. A lot of thought has gone into this attraction.

Lovely fresh food and very nice staff. Would eat here again. The fish was wonderfully fresh. Nice room too. Popular with the Icelanders - always a good sign!

Loved this clean, airy restaurant. Had a great buffet prepared by a talented chef for about $16 with fresh greens, a soup de jour, homemade bread and lots of interesting salads. We also had the fish stew off the menu and were given a generous portion in a cauldron that filled a large soup bowl two and a half times.,... More

We stopped here for an early dinner, expecting typical touristy, coffee-shop faire, but it was not. They had a good selection of local cuisine, and it was well-prepared. I had the traditional mashed whitefish and potatoes, and my wife had one of the day's special, which was horse. Okay, some of you probably won't approve of that particular dish, but... More

This museum is tucked away but well worth finding. The museum is built around the archaelogical remains of a long house and clever use of technology, subtle lighting and clear explanations make it a great experience.

My husband and I needed a quick lunch on the way back from Snaefellsness to the airport and I'm so glad we stopped here. The restaurant is in the centre, so while waiting for food I browsed around and read up on the sagas a bit. Their meat of the day was horse and the fish was tusk. Both were... More

There didn't appear to be many restaurants available at Borgarnes, so we decided to visit the Settlement Centre. On first impression, it appeared to be somewhat of a tourist trap. However, the meals themselves were reasonably tasty. The lobster pasta was..ok, the lobster salad wasn't as good, and the beef burger was..ok too. All this was rather expensive for the... More

Focused on the remains of an early Icelandic house from pre 871AD, this exhibition gives a really interesting insight into teh ancient way of life.

Quite a small museum. Worth a visit to play on the interactive tables. Would be great for kids on a wet day.
