I read about Dave's plate on trip advisor my trusted source for local ideas while travelling. It's exactly as it was described. Down home Hawaiian local breakfast and. Lunches. Big portions, unique options on menu and the best value. A short drive from the waikaloa area hotels up into the hills of waikaloa. The place is very understated and looks... More

We found this place to be warm and welcoming! The $5 breakfast special can't be beat, and Malcom, the owner, was so friendly! He showed us a map and drew on it places we should find. So, we did! He was super, even sitting down with us for a few minutes to chat. We came back to say thanks and... More

This place is worth the drive from anywhere on the north end of the island. It has the best Loco Moco on the island, hands down. Not sure how they do it, but the gravy can't be matched. We found this place on Trip Advisor and ended up eating here twice during our 7 day stay. I would have eaten... More

My wife and I decided to have breakfast there this morning after having read the positive reviews. We were not disappointed! Although the outside of the restaurant may not appear to be very inviting, the inside is most inviting thanks to the owner, Malcolm's, engaging approach. The food was superb and the prices amazing compared to every other restaurant we've... More

Stayed in Waikoloa for 6 days and came here every chance we had. The brisket and pulled pork sandwiches were excellent! Coffees were good too! The prices were more than reasonable. We also had dinner at the Canoe House @ Mauna Lani and i thought the food at Dave's were better. Malcolm was super friendly, had great spirit! Thanks again... More

Dave doesn’t really own this place. Someone named Dave had a coffee stand here a few years ago and the name stuck. This is a place to eat breakfast or lunch with the locals at a very reasonable price. The espresso drinks here are wonderful. The food is not special but it is plentiful and good. This is our favorite... More

Dave's Shack is epitome of the Hawaiian vibe ...relaxed, great food, good people. We ate here our first morning. It helped launch us into vacation mode. I had the breakfast special & coffee, my husband had the fish sandwich and it was less than $20 (for both), delicious! Malcolm, the owner, has a great sense of humor -- helped get... More

This was a great find for us. Dave made us welcome from the minute we walked in. Unpretentious and homey, a hangout for the locals. Good food, great lattes, and good food... and reasonable. Be sure to check it out if you come here.

Dave is a really nice guy and the food was very good, but not too fancy. My daughter and I split the loco moco. French toast was very good. The brownies were huge and cheap. Great mango scones, homemade and fresh.

Well, we had read multiple rave reviews and were not staying too far away so we decided to give this place a try. The positives include the lovely staff (probably owners) and the cappuccino was really good. Had heard the French toast was amazing but, really, it wasn't. I guess if you've never had French toast before, you might think... More
