In a place with so much touristy food that's over priced and not that good, what a treat it is to find something as simple and perfect as Manago! We love it. We visit at least once every time we are on the Big Island. And this latest visit was as great as ever. One tip I just learned. For... More

The Manago Hotel is an historic landmark for the West side of the Big Island. It hasn't changed much over the years but then you really don't want it to change. You almost feel like you can walk into the TV room and catch the "I Love Lucy" show on. The pork chops are so fantastic we have ordered only... More

It's taken me nearly a decade to eat the pork chops at the Manago, but my wife and I finally made it there for a delightful lunch. Our meals came with a big bowl of rice, pickled bean sprouts, mac & potato salad and mixed vegetables, all of which were served before the meat arrived. These items alone would probably... More

Walking into Managos Restaurant is like walking into their grandmother's kitchen in the 1950's. The formica kitchen tables has such a 50's vibe. Love their fried pork chops and just tried the butterfish which melts in your mouth! Managos is only open a couple of hours for dinner in the evening--so make sure you make it on time!

A few years ago, a friend recommended Manago Restaurant for it's home cooking, particularly the pork chops. Ever since, every time we're on the Big Island, we eat here at least once. This year, we took my parents, who LOVED it. The menu is limited, and the hours are a little funky, and the atmosphere is that of a school... More

Unfortunately my review is limited to service only as we did not get a chance to taste their apparently amazing food. We were a family with a small child and arrived approximately 30 minutes after their lunch closing time of 2pm. We had driven 3 hours from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and had come specifically to Manago Hotel because of... More

We stayed in a family room, ie the kids room was accessed from the balcony. Great price and wonderful view, this building has a wonderful history and pleasing ambiance. If you are a couple, request the 3rd floor founders room. It is a traditional japanese bedroom, with the futon on the floor, beautiful balcony, and soaking tub in the bathroom.... More

They provide local food at reasonable prices in a restaurant that clearly is a relic from an earlier era. (I mean that in a positive way.) We enjoyed the food, and just being there. It looked like most of the other customers were locals, always a good sign.

Visited April 9, 2013 11:00 am, Party of 2 After leaving KOA airport, we turned left and headed straight to Captain Cook...For my wife & I, this is always our first stop when visiting the West side of the Big Island. What makes this place so great, is its authenticity of an "old school plantation" diner from the 50's. Nothing... More
