The food is really good. I like the fact that this is a locally owned restaurant. There is no place to eat in the restaurant, it is strictly carryout. But that's not a problem because the food is so good.

After being stuck in the Norfolk, VA tunnel for what seemed an eternity, my wife and I decided to treat ourselves to Wilkes, in Hampton, which we'd heard about. We arrived as they were closing, but Mr. Wilkes let us in and we let him decide what we'd have. Well, there's no seating, so we waited until we crossed the...

Wilkes is as close to a literal hole-in-the-wall barbeque place as you'll find --- just a storefront walk-up on Victoria Blvd, but the best tasting and most generous pulled pork Carolina-style barbeque sandwiches on the Peninsula. Also great coleslaw.
Their menu includes barbeque chicken, and a number of sides in addition to the coleslaw, but that's all I've ever had...

A local treasure for years. If you like Carolina style this is your place. The sweet potato pie is amazing! Take-out at it's best.
This is a take out place only that has been in operation for a very long time. You can order, sandwiches, meals and sides. Generous portions and delicious.
My wife and I stop by when we're looking for a quick, consistently good BBQ. You can only take-out here but it doesn't really matter. It's a short wait. They have the routine down after all these years. Tried the ribs once too and they were tasty. You can get a side of baked beans and cole slaw. That's pretty...

The food is always fresh and the family who owns the restaurant are always friendly and quick to fill your order. This is a take out restaurant. A great go to for family meals when you just don't feel like cooking.
Wilkes is no frills, down home cooking like Grandma would make. Only carry-out service. No tables.
After a friend recommended Wilkes BBQ, we stopped by there on a recent visit to Hampton. The place is small (very small) and unassuming -- and there is no seating inside or outside. At first glance, one might think this is not the most promising restaurant. But, looks can be deceiving. The food is delicious -- and very inexpensive.
Take-out...
