Another Charlottesville classic. The atmosphere harkens back to the 50s and the food is excellent. One of my faves on The Corner when visiting Mr. Jefferson's University.
We were in town for a football game and ate dinner at The Virginian on a Friday night. It was very crowded and hard to move around. Our food was average at best, we were expecting great macaroni and cheese for the price, but it was nothing special. My chicken philly barely had any chicken on it. Fun atmosphere but... More
We will definitely return on our next trip. Food was great - highly recommend the apple bourbon chicken and mac & cheese and the southern fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Atmosphere was enjoyable.
We always come to the Virginian for Sunday brunch when we visit. They have amazing eggs Benedict and a few variations that are delicious. Service is great. Love the location. You will not be disappointed.
Another “Corner” oldie. Neat bar with bunch, lunch and dinner available. Really good burgers and sandwiches. Very crowded in the evenings (college bar, duh!) and for Sunday bunch. Yea, it's a college bar but this one is a C'ville/UVa. institution with better than average food. The layout is long and skinny so you can have privacy in a back booth... More
Great old pub, good food and beer, nothing fancy but well done. Does have TVs overhead, but still very enjoyable.
The Virginian will continue to be a place we go back to when visiting Charlottesville - the food and local beer have always been tasty and comforting. We do enjoy the Mac & cheese, and this time it was better than the last when it seemed just okay. Tonight it was perfect. Our dinners were brought out quickly and were... More
Stopped by here while we were on the road. Brought back memories from forty years ago. Food was good - reasonable selection beyond the typical college fare, but the fact that the six page menu devoted 3 pages to wine, beer, etc. tells me the emphasis is not on the food. However, the fried chicken was excellent, and the other... More
I read reviews for this restaurant on urbanspoon and thought we would try it since we had a guest staying with us for the night. The location gives it its flare not the food. Our waitress was okay. She was very friendly but flighty, which wasn't a huge deal. She made a pretty big deal about the "world famous mac... More
My wife and I were looking for a reasonably priced restaurant early on the evening of our arrival in Charlottesville and went here on the recommendation of the hotel clerk. Its a narrow restaurant with a bar down one side and plywood bench booths down the other. The restaurant was pretty full but not overly noisy. We got the two... More
