Never again. Biggest waste of money in Pittsburgh. A 4 oz piece of bland overcooked salmon floating in water with 9 1/2 inch peaces of limp celery are not a main course. It was served at the bottom of a large bowl (12" across and 8" deep). Could hardly see the salmon. This for $18.00. Pretentious and trendy but not... More

Went for dinner with friends - it's a hip and bustling place with sophisticated contemporary food. The pairings and accompaniments were inventive but didn't overwhelm the main ingredient. I started with the soft shell crab and then had hanger steak for my main. Nice variety of wines available by the glass. I did have a problem with my first course,... More

Salt's food is pretty good and, for a time, it was my go-to when friends from NY, San Fran, or DC came to visit. It's definitely among the few contemporary eateries in the 'burgh (of which there has been and continues to be a wealth of across the state in Philly, as indicated by my title of this review). If... This was our second visit to Salt of the Earth and we were just as impressed as the first time. The chef(s?) have an incredible and creative knack for combining flavors that is truly amazing. I, once again, had a red-meat dish and what a treat. Hanger steak with collards, bacon, and potato salad. I can't begin to describe the... More

We had a great meal at Salt last weekend. The food combos are imaginative and artfully presented. It seems that tatooes are a required dress code item amongst the wait staff. Everyone was helpful and cheery even though it was very busy.

My hubby and I visited this place last night and left overjoyed that we FINALLY found an upscale restaurant in Pgh whose hype wasn't bigger than what they were able to deliver! First of all, the atmosphere is great, they have something for everyone- if you don't mind the "community type seating" then you can sit downstairs, if you want... More

When going to this type of restarant it´s most important to know what you are getting into. This is not a standard restuarant. When one person in our party asked for bread with the dish, he was not given any. The food is specially prepared. Because the chef takes some liberties with the preperation of the food, the dishes are... More

I like my visit here in January for son's birthday dinner...I have read the reviews and can feel the vibes of varying expectations as our groups verdict was varied. We were seated upstairs and it was more private than the group seating on the long tables with benches below. I like the music running on the sound system but did... More

Just back from Salt of the Earth...not that great! So for $40.00 you get a five course.. The only thing u could order this Sunday..Mistake! Crab salad was good but lack crab...spring rolls good, hard to get them wrong...pork dumpling poor...pork belly okay...pudding not bad. Service was nice, not bad vibe...but food so missed the mark for an overcast Sunday... More

Been to Salt of the Earth several time and love it. Each visit is different and great. I especially enjoy bringing out of town friends who cannot believe this place is in Pittsburgh!
